coaches poll is out

I think this might be a no excuse season and nine wins, playing in a "lesser" bowl may be a problem, though, who knows what Jack is thinking. I think a double digit win season makes things safe for another year but it absolutely cannot end with another major bowl loss.
Unless you make the playoff they are all lesser bowls to me. Date and location mean nothing. Opponent does.

Meaningless.

We were unranked in the AP poll in 2012.
And ranked #24 in the coaches poll.

It is barely August. These people are unaware that "Winter is Coming" to South Bend!

Why ? I have no problem with the poll. I feel like every move related to the program since the end of last season has been a positive one. I am very optimistic and look for 9 wins minimum.
Sorry but ND winning nine games should not be the goal. Its fans like you who are happy with this mediocre crap. ND should be winning 10-12 games every year.

Still chuckling at your remark "I would not leave my guys" regarding Kelly leaving Cincinnati early.
Thanks for the comedy!
That's because you are an idiot and your little brain can't comprehend a coach/player relationship. It shows his true character.

Who said it was the goal ? Do you understand the definition of minimum ? Goodness you appear quite uneducated.

Thanks Jack and Kelly. Couldnt you have pulled your head out last year? After 2017 first 4 games ND wont be ranked in the top 100. Good enough for you Jack?

Just curious, when has ND ever averaged 10-12 wins a year for a long period?

No it shows that he did what his new employer wanted him to do and very likely one of the terms of his agreement.

What we need here is visual stimulation. Imagine BW taking the first snap from scrimmage against Temple and cruising 80 yards to the promised land. Or, Georgia's offense never getting on track or Sam Darnold harassed, punched, bludgeoned, and all out treated like he was Robb Stark at a wedding because the Irish defense had just about enough of ESPN and their snide remarks about the Irish "D".

We were overrated in last year's preseason poll, and the team seemed to believe the press clippings before proving it on the field. We're an embarrassed hungry team and I prefer a steady climb up the ranks from outside the top twenty five to a top ten finish by year's end.

this is what happens when you have a great football coach, not a mediocre (59-31) one like bk.

Ok, so who is the next great coach in your opinion that is a legitimate candidate for the job and not some pipedream ?

With all your Pop Warner Pee Wee coaching experience, you could probably coach ND to 59-31 in eight years.

You do realize that was when Holtz was allowed to sneak players past admissions, right? ND does not allow that any more.

I'm going to educate you now since you have zero knowledge about things. In 2004 Urban Meyer met with ND associates to accept the position at ND. They had a verbal agreement. Then Meyer wanted the Holtz treatment where he could select kids who would pass through admissions at his discretion. ND said no. He pulled his name & went to UF instead.

Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Bob Stoops, etc, will never head coach at a place like ND. It's just that simple. Now go to bed, it's past your bedtime.

ND just hired two really, really good coordinators, & brought back a third. ND also has a possible top 5 recruiting class coming in.
The point is now is not the time to root against CBK, JS, etc... If this staff gets blown up we lose some really good guys & a lot of recruits.
I said I've become pessimistic but, I'll never root against ND. I tried to not be an ND fan a couple years ago and I was successful right up until kick off.

team I followed and rooted for since youth: Army, Navy, ND

Well, all three were glorious powers at some point in time in my growing years.
Army declined 1st; then Navy. Then college football became a very different sport/business such thatI have accepted ND as joining Army and Navy. As a fan you follow them and hope; but it is extremely unlikely that anything resembling past glories will return.

Really? I had no idea. You are so smart, it all makes sense now.

That's no revelation. It's well known. Which elite coach is interested with those parameters in place ? Kelly took the challenge with mixed results. The haters have not offered any reasonable options that are an improvement.

At this point, it seems to be an uphill battle to win 9 or more games this year. GA, MSU, USC, Miami FL, Stanford, not to mention NC will all give ND all the Irish can handle. BC and Navy have given the Irish fits. I of course have no idea, but my guess is a 7-5 season without embarrassing losses gets Kelly another year. I know this board seems to be divided between pro Kelly and anti Kelly camps. But remember, we are all in the ND camp. Go Irish!

1 team in the SEC in the top 10...........SEC is a 1 trick pony! LOL

tOSU over FSU after Clemson spanked them 31-0 in the playoffs last year! ??? LOL

4 Big 10 in the top 10??? How many starters did Michigan lose?
To answer your Michigan question...this is what I think voters are seeing:

1) This is the most athletic and "talented" team it's had in a decade. I out talented in quotes because to your point it is a very young and inexperienced team.

2) speaking of which, after the opener Michigan doesn't face an on paper formidable opponent (obviously anything can happen once games are actually played which is why I said on paper) until late October. Michigans biggest are of inexperience is the secondary and week one opponent Florida has had issues throwing the ball the last couple years (as you know Zaire transferred there and I'm guessing it wasn't because he expected to sit the bench). If Michigan gets past this one it gives them time to gain confidence and experience before PSU a month and a half later.

3) speaking which again...the schedule is really back loaded...flip the order and Michigan almost surely starts 0-2...but by the end of the season the new guys will have experience making the final two games winnable.

4) this is the first time, while at Michigan, Harbaugh has a returning starter at QB. While he isn't a world beater, Harbaugh is a QB guy so I think voters expect his 2nd year starter to get the younger guys through the easier earlier part of the schedule

If you look @ the NY6 bowl results you'll see the preseason top 10 is just a summary of bowl results. the SEC had a bad bowl season so they won't have a good 2017 either. But it's an improvement over pretending that Texas A&M and South Carolina are top 15 teams every year until they collapse. o_O
