If ND looks impressive against Temple they will be top 25 against UGA week 2. They are tied for 29th now with voters looking for an excuse to have them ranked against UGA.

You will need teams in the top 25 to lose in order to make room. I don't see too many potential teams dropping other than the VTech/West Virginia loser.

Why? The first poll is a guess, after week 1 they have seen teams play. After week 1 is when you see the biggest changes. If ND looks good & other teams win but don't look as good ND will jump them. You don't need teams to lose week 1 to jump them.

Well, if the 25th ranked team squeaks out a one point win, they might drop. But ND beating Temple by 25 isn't going to vault the Irish over low ranked teams that also win cupcake games by 25.

Year 8. Not Even top 25
Pretty telling.

But ND is always in the top-12 of recruiting rankings. <<<<<<< exactly why I know absolutely nothing about recruiting. It's pointless to follow.

For whatever it's worth- Go Irish!!!

It happens every year after week 1.
Unranked teams end up in the top 20. Teams 20-25 jump to 10-15.
The coaches who vote understand the preseason poll is worthless, & once they see teams on the field they put out their "real" first poll. Then it moves around less.

Just be ranked in the top 10 at the end of the season. I am not concerned about where we are before it starts.

Sure, but for that to happen, a non ranked team needs an impressive win against a name program. Beating Texas or Georgia might vault ND up ten spots. Beating Temple is going to jump you 3 or 4 at most.

If you read coaches comments, they think ND is a top 25 team, but coming off an 4-8 year they need to win first.
And go look at the last few years, just go to week 2 in the rankings & look at the column for previous week. There is crazy moment after week 1.

Great job bk, keep up the good work. Hopefully this clown is done after this year and we can get a "big boy" coach

The only poll that matters is the Bowl selection committee rankings later in the season.

You know that guy. That guy who has been absolutely positive when comes to ND. Each and every year thinking this is the year. No matter the schedule or depth chart always this is it # 12 this year. Then finally after twenty plus years of disappointment and being lied to by AD's coaches and administrators. "We play for national championships". Which JS did again this week. BS so finally that guy has had enough and becomes hopelessly pessimistic. Now mind that guy can't stop being a fan it's the biggest part of him. I mean you think of that guy and ask anybody that guy loves ND fb more then anyone I mean that is who he is. That guy is me and I expect another bad season a new coach next season with more of the same meaningless promise. Sorry the glass is half empty.

Regardless of whether or not ND is ranked, the Coaches Poll is suspect. The coaches probably see fewer college games and teams during the season than anyone else. They are focused on their team and their opponent. There have been multiple stories about coaches asking someone else to vote for them. This is entertaining for the fans but at this point it means zero.

ND just hired two really, really good coordinators, & brought back a third. ND also has a possible top 5 recruiting class coming in.
The point is now is not the time to root against CBK, JS, etc... If this staff gets blown up we lose some really good guys & a lot of recruits.

One year removed from 10 wins. I choose to be optimistic.

I think ND wasn't ranked prior to the 2012 season. Ranked or not, you still need to win. That's what matters. Win and the rest will take care of itself. Rankings at this stage are at best, educated guesses. Everyone worries about rankings and where other teams are ranked. Who cares? ND has one objective , singleness of purpose. That's is to beat the team they play on each of the 12 Saturday's this year. That's it. Nothing else matters. Nothing! I don't care where they get ranked. Just go out and beat the opponent. If they go undefeated and get shut out of the playoff I wouldn't care. Why? Because they did all they could do. They have no control over what other people think or do. That's a fact. So when tuning in on September 2nd, I just want them to beat Temple. That should be their sole and only focus that week. We can talk Georgia when the time arrives. Go Irish!!

Anyone that argues a team that had just finished 4 - 8 last season and still has the same head coach deserves to be ranked in the top 25 needs to put the beer down and drink some coffee. Winning a few games in a row is the only way to earn a top 25 ranking after finishing 4 - 8.
Paraphrasing Dennis Green: "We are who they thought we were".

Oh my gosh echo and penn are going to be upset with this post. You can't talk reality/truth with these two bk supporters.

Why ? I have no problem with the poll. I feel like every move related to the program since the end of last season has been a positive one. I am very optimistic and look for 9 wins minimum.

I think this might be a no excuse season and nine wins, playing in a "lesser" bowl may be a problem, though, who knows what Jack is thinking. I think a double digit win season makes things safe for another year but it absolutely cannot end with another major bowl loss.
