On the final day of February, it seems appropriate that Notre Dame freshman goaltender Cal Petersen saved his best for last.
Already named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 9 and Feb. 16, and then its most prestigious Warrior of the Week on Feb. 23, the nation's top goalie this past month capped it off with 55 saves in Saturday night's 3-1 victory versus No. 9 Boston College on Senior Night for he Irish. It was the most saves by an goalie since Morgan Cey's 50 on Oct. 22, 2004 in a 3-2 win over BC.

In February, Petersen stopped 279 out of 290 shots, a .962 save percentage that led the nation.

The Irish finished the regular season 15-16-5 overall and in fifth place in the 12-team Hockey East with a 10-7-5 mark. The top four teams get a first-round bye in the conference playoffs, so next weekend the Irish host the last-place finisher (12th) Massachusetts in a best-of-three series on Friday (7:35), Saturday (7:05) and, if necessary, Sunday (7:05). The two teams met Dec. 5-6 in Amherst, Mass., and the Irish won both games, 7-5 and 4-0.

The Irish goals were scored by freshman Anders Bjork in the first, classmate Jordan Gross in the second to make it 2-1 and senior Austin Wuthrich in the third for the dagger 3-1 lead. Sophomore Vince Hinostroza picked up his 30th assist of the season, one of only four players in the nation to accumulate that many.
