It's nice to see you have moved on. Geez. Dayne Crist, really?
He never said Crist would be the starter all season. He said "I hope he starts every game." Meaning that he (and all of us!) had hoped that Crist would play lights out and earn the job for 12 games. That clearly didn't happen as Crist went on to struggle the rest of his career at both ND and Kansas.
Good, you now can stop picking up bottles and cans from the highway for the refunds....
this may be an old thread, but on the issue of contract extension, being HC at ND is a job that exacts a toll and after 2016, Kelly's 7th year, you start to enter the 1 year at a time area. JMO, 7 seems to be the upper bound, after that the ability and desire to deal with stress of the job is just probably not worth it.

I'd be a huuuuugggeeee improvement and all the Kelly enablers would be crying as they would look like the fools that they are.
In fact they'd be so upset at how easily I did it that they'd say I did it with Kelly's recruits or let's see how I do over five years as the new stadium was probably the reason we started winning and not because of my superior coaching and management.
It will always be something. Over the last 25 years I've watched board boobs support Davie, Willingham and Weis for years after it was clear that they're were dogs and just set ND back years further.
The fall of an empire.....even the Roman's kept Rome great for several centuries before screwing it up. Swarbrick and Kelly just have the ability to screw things up faster.

I have repeatedly called for Swarbrick to provide kelly with the outside resources/consultants to elevate him to the next level. Right now he's an average to above average coach with the colossus resource of the ND football brand. kelly does not have the skill set to take the next step on his own. He has established zero identity in 6 years in any phase of the game. If inconsistency was a successful coaching brand he'd be at the top of everyone's list. His ego outpaces his skill set by a ton. NFL hahahahaha. He's the guy that says he shoots par in golf and can't break 80. He's out of his league.
The fact that folks find this new contract to be a revelation is funny. ND did not want to get into a lame duck situation in '17. If he doesn't perform he'll be gone....
I've posted on other posts a whole array of coaches by name they could approach. I've also said Autry Denson could be a star.
However no matter what they are deemed unrealistic according to you and the ESPN snickerers who spin everything ND negative like they MSNBC does to common sense. Apparently both you and MSNBC have no common sense.

While being pissed off about Coach Kelly calling a timeout with 90 seconds to go and the Irish D letting them score so Brandon W. could get in the game (my conspiracy theory) I yelled out "Smug bastard !!" and smashed my left hand sideways against the refrigerator door. It hurts to type (I type left handed) and is swelling up pretty good. I am going to the clinic in the morning to get Xrays.
It doesn't look good. I might be out for the season.

Coach Kelly gets the big salary ! It was mostly his fault we lost to Clemson ! He did not get the players motivated to match the intensity of Clemson at the start ! And that two point conversion was stupid and desparate !

Heck there's a guy who claims to be ND's biggest fan and a hs football coach that could only name 3 NFL players from our '12 team..... If he started a site I might pay for it. He spouts off things like "X right wing right double Z blue" and thinks people are impressed. It's awesome that he posts between washer/dryer machine cycles..
Kelly is certainly a top five CFB coach who does things the right way.

I don't know folks. This tells me one of two things. Either Kelly has the administration believing that improvements will come. Or, the thought I'm siding with. ND has tested waters outside and no viable, sought after coach is stupid to come coach this never ending dumpster fire. This administration is perfectly content fielding 8-4 - 9-3 teams year after year. How many of the big time coaches so far have shot down any ND interests?
We were 10-3 this season. We lost to the # 2, 3 and 4 teams. We lost to two of those teams by 2 points on the road. Can we do better? Yes. "Dumpster fire"? No way in hell.

I believe that in 2018 that Michigan and ND will play. Michigan has a open date in early September for a OCC game and all ND has to do is move a early game ahead or back to fit Michigan in. Harbaugh vs Kelly I can't wait !!

Coach Kelly is not perfect. I get pissed at Coach Kelly a lot ! Neither is Harbaugh perfect ! I only got bone chips in my knuckle after the GT game and we won ! If I were a Michigan fan I would have broken all the bones in my hand after Harbaugh punted the ball to lose the Michigan State game !! He should have just ran the QB up the middle !!

Great. I would love to see your results vs his. If you could please link the games in D1 football specifically against other D1 (or FBS) opponents that I can review your vs his.
Surely you would have netter game plans against teams like Clemson that played for the national championship. Or Stanford that won their conference this year. And absolutely dog stomped Iowa. Also if you could specifically explain and show proof of how you have been able to average over 9 wins a season in D1, P5 college football.

BK is currently not a top five CFB coach. Not all that close.

I'd rather have all 10 of these coaches over BK. But, BK is heads and tails better than our last 3 horrible coaches. And BK is a solid recruiter. Bk IMO can still get himself into that top 5 echelon of coaches if he can win some games vs. top 5 teams and hammer the teams he's supposed to hammer instead of having his team play to their level and barely squeaking out a win.
IMO he has the talent in place - he now needs to prove he is a top tier coach.
Over-interpretation; just no data supporting either of your two possibilities. Contract extension is more likely a simple signal of stability to the public including recruits. Otherwise, Kelly may be seen as a lame-duck coach if he is in the last year of a contract. Can always be let go if the administration chooses to do so before extension is complete.
