Kelly and Swarbrick would both be fired by now if this was the NFL where accountability matters. However in the stupid ND administration everyone gets rewarded for stinking it up.

Great news. Kelly has grown into the position and all its demands. Contracts are broken every day, but the likelihood is he retires from ND after a twelve year run, which would be pretty remarkable in this day and age. This can only help recruiting.
No surprise here. Like many of you I'm frustrated that Kelly has not gotten a major bowl win or beaten an elite opponet and his record against top 25 teams is underwhelming. However, this is likely the best move. Kelly continues to recruit well and be competitive for the most part. He runs a clean program and his morals/ethics/integrity as a person and a coach has never truly been a question. And even if ND were to fire him, who they could realistically replace him with and have the certainty that he would do better than Kelly?
Lots of integrity indeed! Tells the world Dayne Christ is his QB for the entire season and then benches him at halftime of the first game.
Well two thoughts. for an outsider I think Kelly has dome a pretty darn good job, Didn't you guys play for the Natty a couple of years ago?. Second contract length means nothing in CFB. Check the buy out clause.

So much for the Swarback hired Sanford to replace Kelly after one or two years of seasoning.... I would like to see some succession planning over this six year period, but appreciate that rarely happens in Div 1 football.

No coach ever tells a player you are guaranteed to start for more than the next game, and every player knows that. Much ado about nothing.
Care to tell us who are the realistic alternatives you would hire to replace Kelly?
This was a "must" for Swarbrick to take care of. While he doesn't have 3 rings, there isn't someone who does ready to step in.
Extending him helps recruiting and continuity, which helps raise the bar.
There will certainly be clauses in the contract that allow ND out before 2021 if necessary. Just like BK probably has his own outs built in too.

I pray he asked for more money for more staff. And not only that I pray he was granted it. Really hard to land the top coaching talent only paying 1/2 of what other big boy schools do.
