Braden Lenzy flips to the Ducks

So he committed to ND in Feburary, changed his mind already by March, then decided back in April. Waited until today, in which he decommitted, committed, then "shut down" his recruitment all in an afternoon?

It's fine he's going to Oregon, but you would think he would not do all three in one day. Maybe take some time in between, before "shutting down" his recruitment. Sounds like a rushed decision, much like when he committed to ND.

So be it.

I rarely think this way but.......ND has bigger needs. DEFENSE. ND has plenty of skill on offense.

I agree.
Back when I thought he might be a DB I was excited. But when I saw he is a WR I didn't pay much attention to him. We recruit plenty of WR's. Of all the quality commits, his flipping concerns me the least.
We need to keep the defensive commits.

He may not be done flipping.
yep, defense is the way back. Lenzy is very fast, but is he fast with the football in his hands and large people chasing him with bad intent. This we do not know yet. Football fast? or Track fast?

No reason to sweat losing what we never had. As stated, not a position I'm worried about. Opens the door for another WR or hopefully DL or CB.

whenever the is a commit on the commit list from another state, you can bet that that state or university in that state will not relent the pursuit of a kid. Lenzy was getting increasing attention and he probably felt he may have undervalued his options at the time of his initial commit.
There are a couple other commits that are probably getting a lot of intra state pressure.
Lenzy was not a surprise.

so here you have it (Dad)

At the end of the day, this decision was based solely on the ability to run outdoor track. As Braden continued to have discussions with Coach Kelly and with Troy Pride he became increasingly aware that the staff felt that Braden running track would be more focused on indoor track as a training mechanism for football. Braden treats track like many treat Baseball as an everyday player not a pitcher or Lacrosse players as their second sport. The demands and requirements for ND football players in the spring were not going to allow him to run track and focus in during track season at a level that addressed his personal goals.

The Spring Game visit was in fact so my son Max could meet the DB coach. These thoughts did not happen until after his track season and Braden informed the ND staff that he was considering not enrolling early because he wanted to return for his Senior track season. Again, this conversations raised some additional concern based on the response he received from the staff. In the end, the discussion he had with Oregon this Sunday outlined a partnership between the track program and football program that allows him to dedicate himself in the spring to the track program during track season (spring football time) and with the football team during the football season.

Braden LOVED ND. In the end, his personal goals of doing his best and performing at a high level in both sports. Oregon became the better fit. For all the people shitting on him for investigating and making the right decision for himself...shame on you. How many times are we as adults not as diligent in our decision making at 30,40 and 50 years old. He is 17 years old and his verbal commitment fortunately or unfortunately is not a binding one.

He gave his commitment in February because it was the best for him...at that time. Better for him to find out now vs finding out 1/2 through his freshman year at ND that he really wouldn't have the time nor be given the opportunity to compete at the level he was wanting to.

    PS,
I can assure you Uncle Phil did not give me a raise for Braden's decision...

This would be a story if it were , let's say the last week of January 2018. Since its June 2017, not a story as far as I'm concerned. As I like to say, the word commit should be replaced by " strongly considering ". That's the accurate term. It's only a commit after they sign on the dotted line.

I hate to lose him or any forecasted great athlete. However, that is what is intriguing about college recruiting. Schools are coming after ND players and ND is going after players that have committed to other schools. Tkirish states it well. At this time, commitment is really "strongly considering" or "currently at the top of my list." Now let's get Booker and Simon! Go Irish!!

Don't follow recruiting much. Don't really care, especially after the eddie V. deal couple yrs. back. Don't know who this guy Lenzy is and know zero about track-indoor or outdoor. All I can say is - next February, welcome aboard to those who love to play football for ND. To the rest, good luck.

I liked his film. He had over the top speed I thought. Poor man's Will Fuller with better hands I thought. More speed than Fuller had at this stage. Fuller really improved his speed though. 4.53 coming in then 4.32 at the combine.

Nice getting Takacs today. Takes the sting out. Still, we need some over the top WR speed.

When I saw his Dad worked for Nike I felt like he would be hard to hold on to

This is why I don't get wrapped up in recruiting.

So true -- basically, they are all free agents until they sign the LOI --

I've also heard that it is because he wants to play football and run track. Oregon is the best place to do that. I wish the kid well. ND has a better history of football but few, if anyone, can touch Oregon's track history. It must be something about the rain that makes track so attractive.

Meh. Not a huge concern imho based on other position needs. Good luck to him in track and fb at Oregon.
