On this day in 2012 we held Stanford in OT on the famous goal line stand. I was at that game and can't help but to think how loud Andy energetic that stadium was. And continue to think why is it so dull now as a program in general? how many points will we give up?How many times will the cameras show BK purple head? Where's the passion? Most of all where is the defense and the "rip your head off" mentality?

All of this leads me to Bill Cowher. A name I have not seen mentioned here. I know BK will most likely be here next year...but after we go 8-4 next year it's time we get a true smash mouth MAN in charge of these highly rated young men. Create a program where we are feared. Where we are IN every game and not playing from 2 touchdowns down. Control the time of possession. Create a team with a damn identity! Bill can bring all of that along with a stellar name/brand of his own. Can you just picture the chin in ND gear on the sidelines! Goosebumps

BK has done some good for the program initially but the gimmick offense and inability to adapt to in game situations has worn out on ND nation and I believe the players as well.

Would be fine with me but he's retired and there's no indication he's interested in returning to the sideline. He coached in the early 1990's so I'm guessing he's up there in age.

We can wish all we want. I say we because I am in the camp with many of you. With that said, i really feel unless he quits, he will be coaching at the very least one more season. Swarbrick wont fire him after getting a new deal until 2021. He allows him another year to right the ship.

The jaw...love it.

However it might take eight figures per season to get him. If he'd return to an NFL job ...let's say Cleveland....
They very well might pony up that bread to get him.

However if you are going based on energy .. there are some very energetic coaches a lot cheaper that probably could do just as well.

yep: ND is not currently in the market for a Head Coach. Jack needs 1 more year of enlightenment.
He could get a glimpse of how it will turn out in Feb. If the defensive class fails to get some (additional?) impact commits and finishes 'meh' and whiffs on the OL LT then it is just : rinse-repeat.
Old question: 'why can't Jack read' ?

Hasn't coached in 10 years, never coached college... not sure how his is the "Perfect Fit"

agree. Just say Kelly is fired at the end of the season. what are the odds we get a cower or some high profile guy? my guess slim and none. We will probably take a coach that is on the rise.

Maybe a good fit for the NBC broadcast booth. Terry Brennan is still alive and well. Maybe we can give him a second try under much better conditions this time. If you want running game, he's the guy to grant your wish.

The perfect guy for Notre Dame right now is Tom Herman. Others here have their finger on that pulse. This guy is positioned to take the Texas job after the Charlie Strong experiment is finished. And to Texas' credit...they won't apply the 10 year plan that exists at Notre Dame. Strong is on much thinner ice right now than Brian Kelly is...after only three years. Herman's midwest experience at a BCS level school (tOSU) gives him a dimension that BK did not have...and to be picked by Urban Meyer to be your offensive coordinator....thats some gravitas.

Herman has been seasoned at D1 schools...and has demonstrated his ability to win. Kelly won at his level...but that level is not what is required at Notre Dame. Texas will come calling for Tom Herman soon. Kevin Sumerlin has lost alot of sleep thinking this guy would take his job...but thanks to Charlie Strong and a strong start this year...Sumerlin is safe for now. it appears..

Think we are all of the belief BK is here next year. Just wanted to throw out the kind of program I think we should be running and the identity next best thing to a new HC is charlie strong as the D coordinator if he is let go.

I wouldn't say at this point Cowher would be considered a high profile hire. He has notoriety but that hire in the current climate would signal a disaster at ND, as in the couldn't get their top candidates and just threw money at him to make a splash.

I heard Jim Tressels name come up a few Times on BR (super unreliable I know). How does everyone feel about it? I hope not personally.

a pro coach is not what ND needs....We need someone who is aready dialed in to the networking necessary on the college level. I know some will say Saban and Harbaugh came from the pros..but both were college coaches who weren't in the pros that long. they are already dialed into the system.

Given his troubles with the NCAA, I can't imagine ND would consider him.

I still take Sanford as an interim HC; for '17 and see how it goes. If you 'stand pat' it will pretty much be 7 or 8 W's depending on who goes draft. The question is risk/reward or familiar/complacency.
Fans are going to debate this to it's usual ND conclusion.

I could buy into the interim scenario with Sanford....if necessary.

where Sanford will hold and even bring in recruits, it may be at a point where Kelly is making recruits stand off.

We will know the answer to that one on 5 months. But if the later, then ND is screwed!
