Basketball Notre Dame WBB draws home game with Texas in SEC/ACC Challenge

Irish are No. 4 in ESPN's Way-Too-Early Top 25. Texas is No. 6. Duke, by the way, drew the defending national champion, South Carolina, on the road.

From the ACC:
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For just the third time in program history, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Texas Longhorns are set to face off this fall.

On Wednesday, ESPN/ACC announced that Notre Dame will host Texas in the 2024 SEC/ACC Challenge on Thursday, Dec. 5 in South Bend. The game time and broadcast designation will be released at a later date.

This will be the first matchup between the two Power 5 schools in 27 years as they last faced each other on March 17, 1997 in the NCAA Championship Second Round, where Notre Dame won 86-83. With the overall series split at 1-1, the Irish have played both previous games in Austin, Texas and will host the Longhorns for the very first time this fall.

The Big 12 Tournament Champs, coached by Vic Schaefer, finished 33-5 last year as the Longhorns’ season came to a close in the Elite Eight after falling to NC State.

Football Updated Notre Dame depth chart heading into summer workouts; veterans report Sunday

We'll give this another refresh in a few days when we get updated heights and weights. Not a lot of movement since the last update in terms up ups and downs. I still expect Aamil Wagner to overtake Tosh Baker in August, for example, but am leaving Baker at the top for now. The Rocco Spindler/Pat Coogan battle will be interesting. I know the Irish are going to hive freshman Brauntae Johnson a look as a backup nickel, so that might be a move that sticks, and I included that for now. I'm also fairly confident we'll get announcements of some medical retirements very soon that will get ND down to 85 scholarships.

Basketball MBB: 2025 five-star SF reports Notre Dame offer

Notre Dame was one of three offers reported Monday by five-star small forward Nate Ament. The Warrenton (Va.) Highland product also added offers from Oregon and Kentucky.

Ament's offer list has been growing as his ranking has been rising. He's added 14 offers since the start of May, including Alabama, North Carolina, Kansas, Texas and NC State. Rivals named Ament the No. 10 overall prospect in the 2025 class earlier this month. He was ranked 38th as recently as early November.

I've seen Ament's height listed anywhere from 6-7 to 6-10. He's listed at 6-8 by Team USA. In late May, Ament received one of the 12 roster spots for the USA Basketball U18 National Team.

Football Archived Weekday SportsBeat Podcasts from WSBT-AM radio in South Bend.

Last Wednesday, July 26, I returned as a co-host of WSBT's Weekday SportsBeat radio show for the first time since the pandemic prompted changes at the station. I'll be co-hosting with Darin Pritchett every Wednesday and Thursday during the season as well as Saturdays for the pregame show. If you want to listen live, we're on from 5 to 6 p.m. ET on the weekdays. The pregame show starts 3 1/2 hours before kickoff for home games and 3 hours before for road games. It ends an hour before kick time. All can be heard at WSBT-AM 960 or live streaming at wsbtradio.com. My friend Allison Hayes, from ABC 57, is co-hosting on Tuesdays.

This show has a different format and different thrust than our Inside ND Sports Podcast, so as long as you can stand this much Eric Hansen (third-person reference), you're good to go.

If you can't or refuse to listen live, you can take us with you in podcast format. I'll post the link to each show here, which you can download. Here is last THURSDAY'S show, even though the URL says Friday.

When you click the link, it will look like this. Once there, just click on the arrow in the top righthand corner. That will allow you to share or download.
