incredible stat line for Hannah Hidalgo

All ND women's basketball fans know that 5'6" Hannah Hidalgo (#3) was a 1st team All-American last year as a freshman, led the nation in steals, and was the ACC's Defensive Player of the Year. After her stat line in ND's 74-61 win over #3-ranked Southern Cal on Saturday - 24 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals - I read the following day that thus far in her college career, Hannah has already had 10 games with at least 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals. That is the most such games by any D-1 player in the last 25 years - i.e., more than Caitlin Clark, Breanna Stewart, Maya Moore, Sabrina Ionescu, Skylar Diggins, Kelsey Plum, etc etc. And, by the way, more than Paige Bueckers & JuJu Watkins. ☘️ 🏀🏀☘️

Football Resilient Notre Dame secondary closes out win over USC despite shaky play

Notre Dame's defense allowed its most passing yards since Marcus Freeman's first game as head coach, but the Irish secondary came up clutch with two pick-6s in the final four minutes of ND's 49-35 win over rival USC.

Project Rudy

The latest re-imagination of college football now includes a multi-billion-dollar proposal spearheaded by former Disney executives for a system funded by private equity, sources confirmed to CBS Sports on Tuesday.

The 70-team structure that would seemingly exclude the bottom tier of the FBS would be funded by private equity firm Smash Capital, sources told CBS Sports. The project would include $9 million infused into a system that would expand the college football postseason, change scheduling and feature tiered revenue distribution.

All those influences, thanks to conference realignment, are already featured as the College Football Playoff field expands from four teams to 12 this season. What were formerly marquee nonconference games in the SEC and Big Ten are now conference games in those two leagues. Going forward, those two leagues will also evenly split 59% of the CFP revenue distribution.

The new proposal, however, would eliminate all games against current Group of Five and FCS teams. The 70 schools would be shopped as a single-entity media rights package. It is not immediately clear which 70 schools would be included.

Recruiting Signing Day surprise provides final touches on Notre Dame's 2025 class

Notre Dame signed just two of the seven 2025 targets it hosted for its premier recruiting weekend of the fall, but the Irish are confident they pushed for the right guys on that list in the closing weeks.

"When you recruit a kid for so long you figure out towards the end who's really worth it, who values this place and wants to be here," general manager Chad Bowden said, "and those are the guys we push, and those are the guys that we got.”

Football Archived Weekday SportsBeat Podcasts from WSBT-AM radio in South Bend.

Last Wednesday, July 26, I returned as a co-host of WSBT's Weekday SportsBeat radio show for the first time since the pandemic prompted changes at the station. I'll be co-hosting with Darin Pritchett every Wednesday and Thursday during the season as well as Saturdays for the pregame show. If you want to listen live, we're on from 5 to 6 p.m. ET on the weekdays. The pregame show starts 3 1/2 hours before kickoff for home games and 3 hours before for road games. It ends an hour before kick time. All can be heard at WSBT-AM 960, 96.1 FM or live streaming at wsbtradio.com. My friend Allison Hayes, from ABC 57, is co-hosting on Tuesdays.

This show has a different format and different thrust than our Inside ND Sports Podcast, so as long as you can stand this much Eric Hansen (third-person reference), you're good to go.

If you can't or refuse to listen live, you can take us with you in podcast format. I'll post the link to each show here, which you can download. Here is last THURSDAY'S show, even though the URL says Friday.

When you click the link, it will look like this. Once there, just click on the arrow in the top righthand corner. That will allow you to share or download.
