ACC Network....BC.....Mark Herzlich

I have enjoyed watching the ACC Network this season since ND is the topic of discussion daily.
Nice to have Jordan Cornette leads "The Huddle" and the other 3 hosts are interesting and fair.

One guy who is very funny to watch and listen to is Mark Herzlich. When I say funny, I am referring to his hate
for ND. It is so obvious that he can't stand anything to do with ND. I find that almost every BC player has issues with
ND and most of the grads also I guess BC being subpar football, and being known as the "2nd Catholic University" or "Fall back plan" (if denied admissions into ND), would piss me off too.

Today Herlich was asked which ACC Coach should get Coach of theYear. he said NC State's Coach. Thought it was funny that there was no mention of Kelly who probably gets the national Coach of the year award this year.

No. 16 ND Hockey Loses At Home To No. 20 Arizona State

Arizona State took a 2-0 lead just 1:55 into the contest on Thursday night and never looked back while 2-3 Notre Dame, fresh off a sweep of Michigan last weekend, fell to 0-3 this season on its home ice.

Trevor Janicke, Graham Slaggert and Nate Clurman all netted goals, but it was a rough night for Irish goaltender Ryan Bischel — who was the Big Ten First Star recipient this week after his excellent play at Michigan last weekend. Evan DeBrouwer stopped 31 shots to earn the victory in goal for Arizona State. Bischel made 20 saves before Dylan St. Cyr stopped the only two shots he faced in relief.

Notre Dame converted on its lone power play of the contest with Janicke converting his first of the season with 7:06 to go in the first frame. The Irish penalty kill also went 1-for-1. ND outshot Arizona State, 34-28.

The Fighting Irish and Sun Devils close out the first of their two series this season tomorrow night (Dec. 4) with a 7 p.m. game at the Compton Family Ice Arena (NBCSN).

If CFB Schools are Tech Companies, then Michigan is Yahoo.

They had a strong presence in the past, but recently cannot find the right leader for the program. They continually gets killed by Alphabet/Google, which is OSU. In the news for wrong reasons.

Other Programs

Alabama - Apple: Strong brand and willing to spend any amount of money
OSU - Alphabet/Google: Whips their main competitor regularly
Clemson - Amazon: Is able to get any recruit they want and outspend just about everybody but Apple
Notre Dame - Microsoft: Always discounted by the public, but is a top four program/market cap. Not considered as cool as the top three, but when looking at the fundamentals deserves to be up there.
LSU - Facebook: Controversial Leader
Georgia - Tesla: Outspoken leader of the program.
Oregon - Nvidia: Historically solid program that is killing it in the Semiconductor/Chip
USC - Intel: Strong historic program, but is no longer innovative. Is currently lagging behind Nvidia
OU - Netflix: Great offense, but not much else.
Texas - Dell: Both are located in Austin and are afterthoughts
Ole Miss - Uber: Former CEO was a black eye for the program/company

No Fans To Be Allowed At Rose Bowl In CFP Semifinal

So if that's where Notre Dame is headed on New Year's Day, no tickets available. You wonder in these type of situations whether it should be moved elsewhere, e.g. Duke's campus in 1942 during World War II.

Recruiting Two Notre Dame Commits See Rise In Recruit Rankings

It's like these things almost always balance out. Kahanu Kia moved up from a low three-star to a high three-star on the Rivals scale without a senior season. Caleb Johnson flipped from Auburn to Notre Dame and moved up in the rankings. What's up conspiracy theorists?

Dec. 4: This Day In Notre Dame History

Notre Dame is 2-0-1 on this date:

Bronze Medal, 1948: The Irish complete their third straight unbeaten season — but it comes with a tie at USC (14-14). Leon Hart scored the first touchdown on a superb catch and run (see video at 5:13 mark), but the Irish fall behind late before an 85-yard kickoff return by Bill Gay sets up Emil Sitko's TD with 35 seconds left, with Steve Oracko kicking the extra point. Notre Dame extends its unbeaten streak to 28 games with this 9-0-1 finish, but does not win a third straight national title, finishing No. 2.

Silver Medal, 1954: Twenty-six year-old Terry Brennan concludes his first season as head coach 9-1 with an eight-game winning streak and No. 4 finish after a 26-14 win versus SMU. Joe Heap scores twice for the Irish, the second on an 89-yard run.

Gold Medal, 1926: The first-ever meeting with USC has a capacity audience of 74,378 in the Coliseum, and comes the week after 8-1 Notre Dame was stunned at Carnegie Tech when head coach Knute Rockne opted to do public relations work at Chicago instead. The Irish rally late when Rockne inserts backup QB Art Parisien, a lefty, who leads the game winning drive and tosses a 22-yard touchdown to John Niemiec with two minutes remaining.

A little off topic, but what ever happened to Willingham?

Well well well .... someone mentioned a thread on Willingham so here we are.

Why not, Syracuse week so not a ton on the agenda.

Since leaving ND he almost killed the Washington football program which had, at one time, been a national title contender.

He also was/is a member of the college football playoff committee for some unknown reason.

He was also a volunteer golf coach at the University of Stanford.

I call him the "Self-Imposed NCAA Death Penalty"

The other nicknames I've had for him are ...
  • The Archbishop of Awful
  • Harpo (since he was perpetually stoic on the sidelines and never said a word)
  • Black Nicklaus (ok that hasn't aged well but I'm being honest here - but based on his love of golfing instead of working)
  • The Talent Assassin (for how he would initially recruit talented players and have them wasted)
Anyone else wanna throw in some chestnuts?

DAILY COVID-19 THREAD: Friday, December 4

• All thoughts on COVID, statistics, speculation, updates, etc. should be posted in the daily thread.

• COVID threads that pop up separately on the board will be merged into our daily thread — with the exception of sports news items that are related to COVID (school testing updates, announcements, etc.). These can have their own threads but our staff has final discretion.

• As always, political posts – whether in the COVID thread or not – will be deleted.

No bad news on Notre Dame's end continues on football — no positive tests this week through Wednesday — but men's basketball already has had two games cancelled this week because of player shortage for the opposition.

Over the last three weeks, nearly 60 FBS games have been cancelled.
