Basketball MBB: New 2026 SG offer in South Bend (Ind.)

Notre Dame men's basketball offered 2026 shooting guard Steven Reynolds III on Saturday. This is a recruit head coach Micah Shrerwsberry and his coaching staff identified earlier and decided to pull the trigger on now. He is the first player in the 2026 recruiting class the Irish have offered.

The 6-foot-5, 160-pound shooting guard attends South Bend (Ind.) Washington. He previously went into detail on his contact with Shrewsberry and his visit to campus earlier this summer with Inside ND Sports.

"Knowing I'm the only 2026 right now, [it] feels great [and] gives me more reason to work so I can stay on top of the list and sustain what I'm doing right now," Reynolds said in August. "An offer from Notre Dame would mean a lot knowing I'm only 10 to 20 minutes away from campus."

Reynolds is currently unrated and unranked. He reports seven total offers from Notre Dame, Eastern Michigan, IUPUI, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Purdue and Toledo. He also visited Michigan State earlier this month and ran in open gym with the current Spartans team.

Reynolds sisters, Amiyah and Mila Reynolds, are members of the Purdue women's basketball team. Purdue head coach Matt Painter was the first Power Five head coach to offer Reynolds.

Football Game Balls: Estimé is driving force in Notre Dame's road win over NC State

Notre Dame football (3-0) survived its first weather delay and road matchup of the 2023 season in Saturday's 45-24 win over NC State (1-1).

Although the offensive award could have gone to two players, Inside ND Sports highlighted one player from offense and defense deserving of game balls.

Recruiting No. 1 2025 OLB Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng talks junior season, Notre Dame

I caught up with Notre Dame 2025 four-star linebacker target and Irish legacy Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng on Friday night after Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy's win against Indianapolis (Ind.) Ben Davis.

Owusu-Boateng, the younger brother of former Irish linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, is ranked as the No. 19 overall player and No. 1 outside linebacker in the 2025 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound hasn't visited Notre Dame yet in his recruitment. He told me he hopes to get on campus but is unsure of when that will be due to IMG Academy's schedule. The Ascenders do have a bye on Sept. 22 which is the day before Notre Dame faces Ohio State. Still, the Irish are high on him and communicate with him on a weekly basis.

"[Defensive coordinator] Coach Al [Golden], [head] coach Marcus Freeman, [recruiting analyst] Dre Brown, we all talk and so we have a great connection and relationship," Owusu-Boateng told Inside ND Sports.

Owusu-Boateng mentioned Florida as one program sticking out in his recruitment. However, he said Notre Dame has done a great job as well and he appreciates how much they check up on him through phone calls or text. He wants to see how Notre Dame's linebackers execute this season and see how they quarterback the defense because that's what he sees himself doing at the next level.

During the game, I was impressed with Owusu-Boateng's motor and ability to get from one point to the next. He looked very rangy and was physical at the point of contact on all of his tackles. Another observation I made was his vocal leadership. He was constantly talking on the field and sideline and seemed to be one the biggest voices in the defensive huddle.

Owusu-Boateng reports 30 total offers including Notre Dame, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, South Carolina and USC.

My weekly fantasy commentary for the rest of the year

  1. Notre Dame has only played weak teams so far. Any mediocre team could beat the teams that Notre Dame has beaten, and by the same margin.
  2. NC State is clearly not as good as advertised, since Notre Dame handled them easily in their own stadium.
  3. Central Michigan lost to Notre Dame as expected. Clearly, Notre Dame has its way against weak teams, but they don't stand a chance against Ohio State.
  4. Notre Dame was lucky to beat Ohio State by 21. But this also means that OSU was one of the most overrated teams in CFB, clearly very far from the top-five team that "experts" said they were. Next week, a 4-0 Duke team with a win over Clemson presents a classic trap game. Notre Dame will be burned out after its win over OSU. We're predicting the upset here.
  5. Notre Dame squeaked by Duke, winning by a mere 11 points and failing for the first time to cover the spread. Perhaps Notre Dame is beginning to self-destruct.
  6. Notre Dame fails to cover the 21-point spread at Louisville. Failing to cover twice in a row suggests that they are ripe for a defeat at home against a battle-tested and undefeated USC.
  7. USC's offense is great. The 27 points they put up is more than anyone else has been able to manage against Notre Dame. Notre Dame's offense did manage to put up a record 66 on USC. If a mediocre offense like Notre Dame's can put up a number like that, the USC's defense is simply terrible, and they are not the team we thought they were. Notre Dame plays Pitt next week, and we expect that to be a close game that could go either way.
  8. Notre Dame made short work of a Pitt team that obviously isn't as good as advertised.
  9. At 7-1, Clemson was thought to be a team much improved since their opening loss to Duke, with convincing wins over Florida State and a top-25 Miami. But it would seem that they haven't improved much at all, since a no-better-than-decent Notre Dame team went into Tiger Stadium and had its way with them.
  10. Notre Dame beat up on a weak Wake Forest team, as expected.
  11. Notre Dame beat up on a weak Stanford team, as expected.
  12. So, Notre Dame wrangles its way into the playoffs, courtesy of a much weaker than expected schedule and some criminally sloppy play on the part of its opponents. However, Notre Dame is playing with the big boys now. This team has never won a playoff game before, and we do not expect it to prevail against Washington's top-10 offense, either.
  13. Notre Dame finally wins a playoff game, courtesy of six turnovers and some unusually terrible defense by Washington. We do not expect Georgia to extend Notre Dame the same courtesies.
  14. Sam Hartman proves to be the difference in Notre Dame's win over an overconfident Georgia team. It would seem that the stars have aligned and Notre Dame has finally won a national championship, but it has the feel of a one-off fluke. A strong schedule turned out to be a weak one, opponents executed poorly, and gifted Notre Dame with a +5 turnover margin. With Hartman gone, we expect Notre Dame to to its usual 8-4 or 9-3 mediocrity in 2024.

Recruiting ND QB target Deuce Knight leaves Lipscomb Academy

Three games into his junior season at Nashville (Tenn.) Lipscomb Academy, quarterback Deuce Knight has left the school. Knight transferred to the program this summer and away from Lucedale (Miss.) George County.

“It was a family deal for him," Lipscomb Academy head coach Kevin Mawae told The Tennesseean. "He did everything we wanted him to do. It had nothing to do with football, it had everything to do with him wanting to be with his family.”'

Knight attended Tennessee's season opener against Virginia on Saturday. It's unclear at the moment if he'll return to the same high school in Mississippi.

Knight has been Notre Dame's primary quarterback target in the 2025 class for quite some time. The Irish have also been pursuing Bear Bachmeier in the last couple months.

Recruiting Notre Dame 2025 four-star CB target Mark Zackery on recruitment, season

I talked with Notre Dame 2025 four-star cornerback target Mark Zackery on Friday night. Indianapolis (Ind.) Ben Davis is one of the top teams in class 6A and hosted Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy. The Giants lost 34-14 but Zackery scored one touchdown, recovered one fumble and made several receptions and tackles.

First, Zackery confirmed he's all set to visit campus on Sept. 23 for the Ohio State game. You can keep tabs on the visitors on our running visitors list thread.

Zackery visited the Irish twice this summer and said his relationship with head coach Marcus Freeman and cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens is in a really good place. Each coach spoke with him earlier this week (both individually).

"Our relationship is just getting better and better," Zackery told Inside ND Sports. "I feel like I'm building a great relationship with those guys. Narrowing down the schools and getting a good feel for the coaches and what I'm looking for in the school, it's coming down well. I feel like Notre Dame is up there."

The 6-foot, 160-pound recruit said the in-person connection means a lot to him and he's looking for coaches who value him. He's really looking forward to the environment on Sept. 23 because he knows both coaching staffs and believes both teams are capable of big seasons.

As I said back in June, Zackery's recruitment could get interesting because of his rise as a basketball recruit. Zackery told me he grew up playing with Notre Dame men's basketball 2025 targets Azavier Robinson, Jalen Haralson, Braylon Mullins and even 2024 safety commit Brauntae Johnson, who likely could play college basketball himself. Zackery hasn't had direct contact with Micah Shrewsberry at all but does have a prior relationship with assistant coach Ryan Owens.

From my point of view, Zackery had a better second half than first at cornerback. He didn't allow any receptions in the second half after allowing two early in the first half. He's a very fluid athlete and his wingspan is longer than most defensive backs in his class. Ben Davis put in its second-string defense in the last six to eight minutes of the fourth quarter.

Notre Dame isn't recruiting him at wide receiver but Zackery played well at the position. His touchdown came over 2024 five-star cornerback and Georgia commit Ellis Robinson, whom Zackery was matched up with on the night and got open on multiple routes against. His primary matchups defensively were against 2025 four-star wide receiver Donovan Olugbode and 2025 five-star wide receiver and Colorado commit Winston Watkins Jr.

Zackery reports 28 total offers including Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

Zackery also has plans to visit Cincinnati, Michigan, Ohio State, Purdue and Tennessee this season.

There is no decision timeline and Zackery said he's still open to all schools before cutting his list.

Recruiting Notre Dame 2025 four-star LB target Gavin Nix growing bond with Irish

I had an opportunity to talk with Notre Dame 2025 four-star linebacker target Gavin Nix on Friday evening. Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy moved to 3-0 after defeating Indianapolis (Ind.) Ben Davis 34-14. Nix visited campus in the spring and is one of the linebackers defensive coordinator Al Golden is after in the 2025 recruiting class.

According to Rivals, Nix is ranked as the No. 120 overall player and No. 4 inside linebacker in the 2025 class.

Golden actually texted Nix earlier on Friday afternoon before Nix and IMG took the field. Nix said the Irish have been in contact since Aug. 1 and Golden gave him an encouraging message and wished him good luck.

The 6-foot, 227-pound defender spent most of his April visit around Golden and head coach Marcus Freeman chopping it up about the linebacker position and learning about each other. Nix said he instantly clicked with Freeman because of his past as a player and his ability to relate to the position he's in.

For Nix, some programs standing out are all four Florida schools, Alabama and North Carolina. He told me Notre Dame's academics hold weight and he's very excited to see where the relationship goes because of Golden, Freeman and their maturity as coaches.

"I love the bond that they have as a coaching staff," Nix told Inside ND Sports. "How they bond, how they are patient and how they teach their players ... I love things like that."

Nix looked like the complete package at inside linebacker from my perspective on Friday. He was great at shedding blockers and stopping the run. Nix laid some big hits throughout the matchup and recorded several assisted and solo tackles. I thought his most impressive attribute was his ability to read, get downhill and make the correct angle to tackle.

He wasn't tested in pass coverage that much but does move a little bit slower than his teammate and Notre Dame 2025 four-star linebacker target Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng in warmups and in pursuit of the ball.

Nix holds 20 total offers including Notre Dame, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Tennessee, Texas and UCF. He's working to finalize a visit for Sept. 23 when the Irish host Ohio State but nothing is set.

Recruiting 2025 four-star WR target Derek Meadows sets game day visit for Oct.

I got word from Notre Dame 2025 wide receiver target Derek Meadows on Thursday night that he’s all set and scheduled to visit Notre Dame for its game against Pittsburgh on Oct. 28.

When Inside ND Sports caught up with Meadows last month, he floated the idea of visiting that weekend but could not confirm. Now, he’s scheduled to return for the first time since landing an offer in June’s Irish Invasion. He's previously said he wants to visit other schools on the West Coast but has yet to take any trips this season.

Meadows has called Notre Dame his dream school in the past and has praised wide receivers coach Chansi Stuckey for his effort in getting to know him.

In the recent Rivals250 rankings for the 2025 recruiting class, Meadows made the second-highest debut at No. 123 overall. He’s rated as a four-star prospect and ranked as the No. 4 player in Nevada.

Through three games this season at Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman, the 6-foot-6, 179-pound wide receiver has three receptions for 60 yards.

Meadows holds eight total offers from Notre Dame, BYU, Colorado State, Hawaii, Nevada, UNLV, Utah and Washington. He's one of several wide receiver targets — four-star Talyn Taylor, four-star Quincy Porter, four-star Daylan McCutcheon, four-star Taz Williams Jr., four-star Cooper Perry and three-star Jerome Bettis Jr. — to know in the 2025 class for Stuckey and the Irish.

Basketball MBB: Confirming upcoming 2025 visitors, including in-state five-star SG target

Notre Dame men's basketball started hosting recruits on campus last weekend when the Irish played Tennessee State on the gridiron. Head coach Micah Shrewsberry and his staff welcomed 2025 point guard target Azavier Robinson, 2025 small forward prospect EJ Walker and 2026 point guard prospect Taylen Kinney. Walker detailed his visit with Inside ND Sports and said all the recruits got to participate in open gym with the current team, meet alumni, tailgate and more.

The Irish will continue hosting several targets and prospects this fall, including 2025 shooting guard target Braylon Mullins (Sept. 23) and 2025 power forward target Trent Sisley (Oct. 28). On Thursday night, I've confirmed two more names.

First is 2025 five-star shooting guard target Jalen Haralson. Shrewsberry recruited Haralson at Penn State and has continued developing a relationship with Haralson since arriving at Notre Dame. Haralson plans to visit on Oct. 14 for the USC football game.

"They love my versatility," Haralson said in June. "Obviously, Coach Shrews, he's good at developing. He tells me things I need to work on and things he can help me on. It's just amazing seeing a coach at that level give me advice this early in my recruitment stage."

Haralson is ranked as the No. 10 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class. He reports 24 total offers including Auburn, Duke, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Purdue. He visited the Hoosiers last Saturday. He attends La Porte (Ind.) La Lumiere School after spending his first two years at Fishers (Ind.) High.

Another visitor expected this fall is 2025 small forward prospect Landon Vanderwarker. I communicated with the Westerville (Ohio) North High recruit directly on Thursday evening and he said he plans to visit on Sept. 30.

The 6-7, 190-pound recruit reports five total offers from Furman, Ohio, Toledo, Utah State and VCU. He also reports interest from Notre Dame, Dayton, Indiana, Ohio State, Virginia and Wisconsin. He visited Virginia in February. He is not currently rated or ranked by Rivals.

Vanderwarker played on the grassroots basketball circuit with Midwest Basketball Club and was teammates with Walker. He's heard from associate head coach Kyle Getter and assistant coach Ryan Owens so far in his recruitment.
