Recruiting Smooth transition: 2026 cornerback AJ Marks thriving at IMG Academy

Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy traveled to Indianapolis on Friday and defeated Ben Davis 34-14. After seeing him in multiple camp settings, I got my first look at Notre Dame 2026 cornerback prospect AJ Marks in real game action. Marks is the No. 3 cornerback on the Ascenders behind Georgia 2024 five-star cornerback commit Ellis Robinson and 2025 cornerback Noah Francis.

Marks told me his transition to IMG Academy has been great since transferring from Farmington Hills (Mich.) Orchard Lake in the summer. He chose to transfer because of the opportunity to compete against the best and prepare for the college level.

Marks saw his only playing time in the second half and caught his first interception of the season in the fourth quarter. He returned it for a pick-six. After the turnover, he allowed one reception on an out route that was short of the first down marker. Marks didn't allow any other receptions.

"It felt great," Marks told Inside ND Sports. "I seen the ball. I just had to make sure I didn't drop it. I had to get the ball first and then I see a bunch of green grass .... it was a great feeling to celebrate with my teammates."

The 5-foot-10, 150-pound defensive back visited Notre Dame in the spring and returned for June's Irish Invasion where he stood out. He told me cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens was one of his favorite position coaches he met in the last year. Marks said during camp, Mickens coached the group in football and life which set him apart from other coaches.

With a strong sophomore season, Marks is a candidate to receive an offer from the Irish in the next year.

"They just haven't pulled the offer yet but all I can do is control what I can control," Marks said. "Notre Dame has always been a great powerhouse. It's always had a great football team. Going to Notre Dame even after football, you're going to be set up for life even after you're done playing football."

Rivals has not assigned ratings or rankings to prospects in the 2026 recruiting class. Marks holds 14 total offers including Kansas, Louisville, Michigan State and Penn State. He's also receiving interest from Notre Dame, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, UCLA, USC and Wisconsin.

Marks said he's heard the most from Kansas, Michigan State and Penn State. His dream school is LSU and he told me he's starting to establish contact with the Tigers, Florida and Miami (Fla.).

Interior defensive line?

Again, I'm far from an expert, just a life-long football fan. I thought Howard Cross had a great game yesterday, maybe the best I've seen him this year. At the same time, ND is getting little to no pressure on the interior. Riley Mills is such a beast, but he seems to lake any ability to separate from an offensive lineman? I hope that's not Golden's scheme. He just seems to try and push the guy backward, rather than using his hands or feet to get by him. Very little interior slants going on. I really question the coaching he receives because with his ability, size and strength, there is no way these first three teams should be able to block him???

The amazing 2021 Oline recruiting class

2023 Starters

Zeke - 5.9 (2019)

Blake 6.1 (2021)
Pat 5.7 (2021)
Joe 5.6 (2021) I challenge you to find a more productive 3 star in ND history.
Rocco 5.9 (2021)

Ok historians, please name me a better year, where ND recruited a more productive group in the same year. Damn we are loaded at OLine, even our 2nd and 3rd string are impressive.

Basketball MBB: New 2026 SG offer in South Bend (Ind.)

Notre Dame men's basketball offered 2026 shooting guard Steven Reynolds III on Saturday. This is a recruit head coach Micah Shrerwsberry and his coaching staff identified earlier and decided to pull the trigger on now. He is the first player in the 2026 recruiting class the Irish have offered.

The 6-foot-5, 160-pound shooting guard attends South Bend (Ind.) Washington. He previously went into detail on his contact with Shrewsberry and his visit to campus earlier this summer with Inside ND Sports.

"Knowing I'm the only 2026 right now, [it] feels great [and] gives me more reason to work so I can stay on top of the list and sustain what I'm doing right now," Reynolds said in August. "An offer from Notre Dame would mean a lot knowing I'm only 10 to 20 minutes away from campus."

Reynolds is currently unrated and unranked. He reports seven total offers from Notre Dame, Eastern Michigan, IUPUI, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Purdue and Toledo. He also visited Michigan State earlier this month and ran in open gym with the current Spartans team.

Reynolds sisters, Amiyah and Mila Reynolds, are members of the Purdue women's basketball team. Purdue head coach Matt Painter was the first Power Five head coach to offer Reynolds.

Notre Dame football (3-0) survived its first weather delay and road matchup of the 2023 season in Saturday's 45-24 win over NC State (1-1).

Although the offensive award could have gone to two players, Inside ND Sports highlighted one player from offense and defense deserving of game balls.
