Basketball MBB: Game Thread | Notre Dame 75, Georgia Tech 68 (Final)

After playing its last six games at home, Notre Dame men's basketball is on the road for the first time since mid-December on Tuesday at Georgia Tech.

The Irish (6-9, 1-3 ACC) have not won a true road game this season, with previous losses to South Carolina, Miami (Fla.) and Marquette. The Yellow Jackets (8-6, 1-2 ACC) lost their last game, which was at home, to Boston College on Saturday, 95-87.

In its recent losses, Notre Dame has been plagued by slow starts to the second half and lack of offensive juice beyond freshman point guard Markus Burton, who averages a team-high 16.2 points per game. On the defensive end, head coach Micah Shrewsberry's squad has stepped up to the challenge and held its opponents, like NC State and Duke, to significantly below their team scoring averages.

The Irish are shooting 40% from the field and 29% from the 3-point line. Burton, forward J.R. Konieczny, guard Braeden Shrewsberry and forward Carey Booth have each shot at least 50 attempts from the 3-point line so far this season. Konieczny and Booth are both shooting at a 31% clip.

ND is allowing 64.9 points per game, which is nearly eight points fewer than Georgia Tech's team average of 72.7 points per contest. Guard Miles Kelly leads the charge for the Yellow Jackets offensively at 14.9 points per game while guard Kowaice Reeves and forward Baye Ndongo, two other starters, each average slightly over 12 points per game.

Duke is the only common opponent between the two programs so far this season. The Yellow Jackets defeated Duke 72-68 in December while the Irish lost to the Blue Devils 67-59 in their last outing.

ND fans, we are witnessing greatness on the recruiting trail...let's not take for granted that

it wasn't long ago that ND was coming up 2nd and 3rd for high caliber recruits from across the nation. In the current world of NIL and transfer portal, CMF and his staff are getting it done and outworking the competition to get the high caliber Notre Dame type athlete. They have a 2nd-to-none system by identifying the junior in high school through contacts and ND high school camps. They develop relationships, relentlessly keep in touch with the recruits, know how to sell the university, and most importantly, close on them. Again, let's not take anything for granted on what's going on with Notre Dame football recruiting. This is how elite recruiting is done. Hats off the CMF and his staff. Go IRISH....Separation is in the Preparation.

ESPN way too early top 25

ND @ 10
FSU @ 16
Louisville @ 22

If those are close to being accurate(which we know they are usually off), but for the purpose of this hypothetical question let’s assume it’s about right.

Would ND have to go undefeated to make the playoffs? I think a 2 loss team in SEC or Big would be ranked higher than a one loss ND and think if there are multiples of those we have a realistic chance being shut out with 1 loss.

HKY: No. 5 Wisconsin sweeps Irish in South Bend

Apologies for not posting this sooner.

No. 5 Wisconsin came into Notre Dame this past weekend and left South Bend with a pair of hockey victories at Compton Family Ice Arena.

FRIDAY

Wisconsin required a game-winning goal in the third period to beat Notre Dame 2-1 on Friday night.
Both teams scored in the second period with Owen Lindmark putting the Badgers on the board first 12:40 into the second period. Notre Dame tied it up with 35 seconds remaining in the period on a short-handed goal by Hunter Strand.
Wisconsin's Charlie Stramel put home the game-winner on a power play at 8:02 into the third period.

SATURDAY

Wisconsin looked to be on its way to a rout on Saturday night with a 5-1 lead early in the second period, but Notre Dame cut the lead down to just one goal before the second period ended. However, Wisconsin tacked on two goals in the third period for a 7-4 win.

Wisconsin scored four goals on 15 shots in the first period with Mathiwu De St. Phalle scoring twice. Carter Slaggert's even-strength goal 12:23 into the period allowed Notre Dame to show some signs of life and prevented the Badgers from scoring five-straight goals.

After Wisconsin went up 5-1 just 3:38 into the second period, Notre Dame's rally included a power-play goal by Maddox Fleming and even-strength goals by Landon Slaggert and Brennan Ali. But the Irish couldn't muster up any more offense.

Notre Dame rode with goalie Ryan Bischel through the whole game despite giving up six goals on 32 shots. Wisconsin's final goal came in an empty net.

The Badgers pulled starting goalie Kyle McClellan after Notre Dame cut the lead to 5-4 in the second period. He allowed four goals on 22 shots. William Gramme did great work in his place by not allowing a goal and saving 23 shots.
