I read an article today in "The Athletic" by their lead College football writer Stewart Mandel listing his list of the top-25 coaches in college football. The article requires a premium subscription, but the list is as follows: #1 Nick Saban - #2 Urban Meyer - #3 Dabo Swinney - #4 Chris Petersen - #5 Gary Patterson - #6 Mark Dantonio - #7 Jimbo Fisher - #8 David Shaw - #9 Chip Kelly - #10 Kirby Smart - #11 James Franklin - #12 Mark Richt - #13 Jim Harbaugh - #14 Mike Gundy - #15 Paul Chryst - #16 Bobby Petrino - #17 Ken Niumatalolo - #18 Pat Fitzgerald - #19 Dan Mullen - #20 Bill Snyder - #21 Kyle Whittingham - #22 Gus Malzahn - #23 Rocky Long - #24 Mike Leach - #25 Scot Frost.
Once you get past the top 5 picks, I really question this list written by a very prominent and well respected observer of college football. I am surprised that Brian Kelly is not on at least the bottom half of this list. He already has Scott Frost as one of the top-25 coaches in college football? He has Hall of Fame coach Bill Snyder as low as #20?
