I am hearing conflicting thoughts on this. If he is granted a red shirt for this season, he would have three seasons of eligibility. Therefore even if Wimbush plays this season with Kizer, all three, Zaire, Kizer and Wimbush would have three seasons of eligibility and all three would have playing experience, correct?

Here's the problem - you get 5 years to play 4 seasons of eligibility, which allows for 1 redshirt season. Normally, playing at all uses up a season of eligibility. What we usually think of as a Medical Redshirt is a way to allow a guy who only played a little early in a season before getting a season ending injury to count that as his redshirt year. But you still only get 5 years.

Even if Zaire got a "medical redshirt" to restore the year of eligibility he otherwise loses this year, he would still need a 6th year to play it. To get a 6th year after an injury, you need to have two or more seasons screwed up because of injuries or some sort of serious hardship. But guys who take a normal redshirt their first season don't get 6th years. At this point, Zaire won't get a 6th year. That would only change if he loses another season due to an injury.

It makes no sense to think he would get it. He's already red-shirted. IrishJD is right. He would have to be granted a 6th year which only happens when a player has lost two years to INJURIES. Zaire didn't lose his freshmen year to injury. He's not going to get a 6th year. He will have 2 years of eligibility left next year.
