I didn't want to put this up yesterday with all the attention on National Signing Day, but ...

After losing to Notre Dame 90-50 on Sunday, Georgia Tech head coach MaChelle Joseph described the Irish as basically another WNBA team.

Late in January, an ESPN feature verified such a claim by putting all five current starters among the top 27 picks in this year’s WNBA mock draft that will be held in the spring. Interestingly, junior Jackie Young was the highest at No. 6, followed by senior Arike Ogunbowale (No. 7), graduate student Brianna Turner (No. 14), senior Jessica Shepard (No. 16) and senior Marina Mabrey (No. 27).

To be draft eligible, a player must turn 22 in that calendar year, which Young will. A few years ago, Notre Dame’s Jewell Loyd left after her junior year to become the No. 1 overall pick (in addition to a career in Europe).

When Young was asked on Wednesday in the Notre Dame basketball office, prior to the team’s trip to Miami for tonight’s game (Feb. 7) with the Hurricanes, on whether she has made a decision to turn pro, she replied: “No, I haven’t thought about it to be honest.”

Asked if it’s something she would consider, she paused, reiterated that she has not given it any thought but said it might be something to evaluate “after the season.”
