Looks like a top ten class in star rating which IMO is more important than total points. Not the best recruiting year Nd has ever had but far from a bad one. Did you miss on positions where there is immediate need? I don't know your returning roster that well but this hardly seems like a diaster.

No real difference makers. A lot of very good players but it lacks those real impact players especially on defense. My biggest concern is that we have really failed to land a great S in 2 straight classes.

edit. Let me say no angst on my part. It's not a great class but it's a very good class and it gives us depth at key areas we really need.

I know you only have a UOJ education beach but could you fix that thread title? LOL.

Groundhog Phil didn't see his shadow, so we'll have 6 more months of whining.

The difference between this year and the years when Groundhog Phil in fact sees his shadow (still leaving us with 6 more months of whining) is probably too nuanced to explain to anyone in Southern California. Given that I really don't understand it myself, I won't try.

There are several kids who could be difference makers, including Hayes and Kareem on defense. And our staff had J Jones rated higher than the four star Kelly we lost to OU. I trust their judgement.

I agree on Hayes he could be, tough to say with the injuries. Kareem I think will be a very good, maybe even excellent player, but I don't think he'll be at difference maker.

Let me say go back and read my original post I edited it because I want to be clear I'm not disappointed with this class but its not elite either. Very good class that gives us depth at DB and DE which we desperately needed.

What strikes me about OP is that he is far more level headed and reasonable than most of the ND posters here.

Not a great class but I'd say very good. At the end of the day we filled our needs. Plus, on offense I trust we'll always be fine. Our oline and wr recruiting along with 2 qbs with good experience- we'll be fine. We'd liked to have had one elite pass rusher and one elite olb.

Still have a shot at drob too which could change the complexion of this class.

I suspect the angst has to do with being "in the mix" for Kelly, Davis, and Robertson and not getting any of them. Robertson is still a possibility and would certainly boost the recruiting ranking. Also, ND didn't land a premiere DT or LB(Hayes will be a D-end), which has probably the weakest link of ND football in the past 10-15 years with the exception of 2012.

That makes sense, you always want the ones that got away. In our case, we thought we were getting Kongbo.

well beach i'm pretty excited about our class as we brought in the nation's second best o-line tackle in tommy kreamer who should be a monster to run behind and plus it is down to our irish and Stanford for 5 star GA ATH Robertson who is a will fuller clone but he is waiting for his new SAT scores to come back this week or next weekend to see if he gets into Stanford and if not then he'll be irish. we also signed a lot of tall DBs who are really athletic and one of them named troy pride is a CB with elite speed that'll be able to stay with your usc recievers which will help make the sc vs nd games more exciting to watch in the future just like this game was in october

5* rarely work out for us, or even stay. Just off the top of my head, I. Williams, Kiel, Vanderdont, Bryant, Tee, Lynch, etc.

kind of early to make a statement like that no ?

I suspect the reason Beach can't spell "Angst" is that they don't have any in Southern California! I hear it doesn't rain there either but that could be urban myth or song lyric! [smile]

All we can do at this point is look at the players and project. Nobody know for certain how any player will develop. I've said 100 times I don't really care about rankings, I look at a players offers. That said there is a correlation between a players "rating" and his offers. Like I said some very good players but not players every big program was after.

Beach,

It is always best to avoid the ND boards for a week or two after signing day or a day or two after losing a game. Perspective gets overshadowed a little bit.

I think it is a very solid class. One more stud LB and a stud DT would've been nice, but other than that I think the positions of need were filled very well.

That probably would have been smart.

I agree. ND will have better classes, but this is a fine one IMO. Nd should be in the top 10 star ratings as a blue blood college team and it is.

ND needed athletes off the edge on defense they got 4
ND Needed DB's they got 6
Reloaded on OL
Got a great haul @ WR
Sleeper QB
ND will fill any holes left ( DT ) next season and will bolster the LB corp

Really good class and put quality and quantity in the two most needed areas ( DE + Secondary )

Anyone who knows the game and our roster know that ND scored large in this cycle

While those are legit, two of our best players in the past 25 years, Te'o and Jaylon Smith, were 5 stars.
So you agree with me. Most of our 5* didn't work out. I live in Michigan, so I can't help but read or hear about their program. They are the same. Their 5* duds outweigh the gems recently.
