Only in ND Football Nation are discussion about trivial matters and intangibles like:
  • "the will to win..."
  • "the quarterback competition"
  • "the coaches heart..."
  • "the 'toughness' of the team..."
  • "the 'leadership' on the team..."
  • "the coaches play call/run to pass ratio"

... etc. etc. etc. discussed adnauseum.

None of these things come ANYWHERE close to the importance of simply having a roster full of the best athletes in the country 85+ deep like present 'bama, osu, fsu (past 3 national championship winners and the best recruited programs in the country). Yet, recruiting discussion, roster depth, talent acquisition, player personnel, etc. is all looked at as an afterthought among ND fans. Surprisingly, fans have come to accept this notion that the coaches "game plan" .. "2pt conversion" decision .. "run to pass ratio" .. etc. is more important than the program landing top tier athletes. When ND strikes out on most of its top targets on the recruiting trail THEY LOSE GROUND IN THEIR LIKELIHOOD OF WINNING COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAMES ON SATURDAYS. Getting Notre Dame fans & ND writers to accept this -- intuitively obvious notion -- is an exercise in futility.

Until ND can recruit with the perennial powers in college football, it doesn't matter who is captain on the team, how much heart the coach has, what the run/pass ratio is, who wins the QB competition, how 'tough' the team is, etc. until the talent/recruiting gap is closed at ND, NDs likelihood of competing for the biggest games in college football is significantly diminished, and none of those bulletted cliche talking points above matter.

Wrong. ND had the better players and lost to Northwestern in 2014 because the head coach decided to run the ball instead of QB kneel it when the game was over.

ND would've been in OT at Clemson a year ago if not for going for 2 too early, but the head coach doesn't get in game management. I can keep going. ND will never get great players ever again. Good players- sure. So it's important to take care of the little things and get a coach that can get ND consistently at 9-3, 10-2.

You forgot the pass int near the end of the game against Tulsa in 2010 when a field goal would of won it

Recruiting is regularly discussed here. Many are dumbfounded by our lack of success relative to other programs.

Question....
What organization cares less about all the above you listed...???

Wait for it.......

N F L

they want measurables. While play making is a bonus...you show me the guy who runs fast, benches many reps, has a massive frame, tall, reach, etc etc....

The point is we have people drafted. Matter of fact they're drafted in lieu of the idiot Kelly who is doing his best to lower their draft stock.

Now let me ask you about those so called meaningless things...
Do the players that have been drafted under Kelly play with high energy? Do they play like their hair is on fire? Do they tackle well? Do they run really good routes? Do they catch everything thrown their way?
No, no, no, no and no.

Yet amazingly they're still drafted and some drafted very high. Why is that? Measurables. They'll make them RE visit their high school days when they were practicing fundamental football routinely.

ND needed one first down before it could run out the clock against NW. That's why Cam had the ball in his sure hands. If Cam had held onto the ball; ND gets that first down and then ND could have run out the clock.

To compete with Ohio State and the top dog Alabama; ND must allow it's coaches full access to the recruiting supermarket and put winning football games over academic reputation. In short, go back to the 1940's academic and enrollment standards for football players. A little steroid help in the weight room would help too. That's a high price to pay for competing at that level IMHO.

No, no, no. I completely disagree. I would rather have ND drop to FCS before reducing standards or resort to steroids and other cheats.

The institution and its standards and principles are more important than its football team.

Couldn't agree more. I don't think Ara64 is advocating for selling out, but many others here are. That group doesn't get what ND is all about, in my view.

Name one poster that has advocated for such nonsense. Plenty have pointed to Stanford's model. They stole our's.

In addition, psu, washington, others are in much better shape than we are....which is tragic considering where they were....

Lastly, please look at UCLA's OC target Jedd Fisch. Feel free to compare his resume' to Chip Long's.

It's comical.

Exactly....and I don't think anyone has ever suggested a pharmacy team.

there is an upside to the demise of ND football under BK and JS, that is the 'meh' is fine with me fans are getting exactly what they deserve and the Kelly shills will eventually follow his sorry butt to his next gig!
The only uncertainty is, is there someone else dumb enough to hire the guy!

But it won't be this season. So sit down, shut up, and enjoy BK for at least another 11 months.

Because 99.9% of the posters on this forum do not have the football aptitude to discuss more complex issues.

Do you guys like the gold trim surrounding the numbers on the jerseys these days, or do you prefer the plain white letters of the Paraseghian years?
