I was sitting in the stands in C-ville when Malik went down, and I was downright devastated. Thought the season was over. Boy was I wrong.

Kizer Soze has been incredible. Malik has ~3 games under his belt. Above average against LSU, great against Texas, average UVA. Kizer to me seems like a better passer. Malik a better run threat. Kizer seems to have more composure. Maybe this is a good problem to have. However, I give the edge to Kizer. Think he is special. Taking nothing from Malik. I would rate Kizer 8/10 and Mailk 7.5/10. Very close.

What do you think?

Who knows, but it is a great problem to have. Each of the three potential QBs only need to look at Golson, maybe even talk to him, and they may likely stay as he would most probobly be the starter today at ND had he stayed.

Whatever, his mistake. ND is in great shape moving forward as two of the three will have proven experience and the third may well be the most talented. Anyone predicting a starter today is only guessing.

Watch through some crazy circumstances it be Ian Book. It's going to be a debate, because the old adage is "you don't lose your job due to injury", but I think Kizer is going to have a hard time going back to the bench after starting most of the year.

From what I have heard from media insiders who actually attend Irish practices, they say that Wimbush is for real. He has a terrific strong arm and he can run. So, if BK is true to his words that everyone has to earn their position, then, it could make for a very interesting three man race. I don't believe there will be an open to the public Spring game so fans most likely will have to see all three on the tube. By then, I'm sure the decision will most likely have been made. I cringe everytime I hear transfer talk.

I bet Wimbush battles to get play time next season but we see DK/MZ QB duo which, if Golson had not left we would have seen an MZ/EG duo this season. So, Golson is way better off as the starter at Free Shoes. ND is better off now, with the emergence of Kizer. Golson and Kelly were burnt out on each other.

Malik? Based on what?
Exactly.

I just don't get it. Kizer has more experience at this point and is leading the team
to 38+ points per game with a 6-1 record.

Love Malik, and it sucks that he got hurt, but he played in less than four games.

He (Malik) may very well be our savior, but it is by no means " a done deal" that
he starts when he's healthy next year.

Just for shits and giggles and to add extra drama to this discussion - what happens
if Kizer leads the Irish to a 12-1 record and major bowl win this year? Is Malik still
the de facto starter in 2016?

BK gets paid a lot of money to make decisions like this!

I know I'll be confident in whoever wins the job. I just hope the other 2 are willing to stick it out for their turn.

I like Malik's pocket presence better than Kizer's and he's looked extremely accurate at times and not so good at others. I just don't know. It's a good problem to have, but not a decision i envy.

It's a good problem to have, as long as nobody transfers. Fortunately, none of them will be eligible for the grad transfer option.

You have to give Kelly credit for his QB recruiting. You have some teams like Alabama and FSU relying on transfers because they didn't have good enough homegrown QBs. Meanwhile, we have 3 good ones, as well as 2 more former QBs starting elsewhere this year.

I think Coach Kelly will go with Kizer. At 6'4" 235 lbs Kizer can see over all the Lineman and is very durable and hard to bring down.
He throws the deep ball better than anyone and can run the read zone and scramble well.
I think he is going to be a great QB in college and pro. He is very cool and smart and has a Tom Brady like competitive fire in him.

*** I hope Malik can back him up and not transfer. Good problem to have.

I do think that a couple of DKs runs where he broke into the open just might have been a home run ball if MZ or Wimbush was carrying the ball. Just speculation. All I know is nobody expected this kind of play out of Kizer. That, to me, has to be the story of the first half of the season with the emergence of CJ not far behind. Both complete surprises.

Ankles are tricky. MZ may need another year. If Kizer finishes this year strong the job is his to lose. Wimbush will be there if he doesnt.

Lol this is laughably and misleading first of all malik throws the ball alot better than kizer.
Malik is a better player the Kizer. All the way around

Yaah right, Malik was 7 out of 18 vs Virginia, Kizer bailed the Irish out in that game.

I like Malik and he is a very good runner and had a great game throwing it against Texas but the jury is still out on how well he can throw consistantly. He was very inaccurate in the practices that were posted and Golson had him beat out because of accuracy issues.
Kizer keeps getting better and now is the more experienced passer.

Now be a good little guy and run along Zulu.

If Kizer starts, I can't see any way Zaire stays, unless a possible position switch, but I doubt that would happen. He's way too talented to be a backup as an upper class man.

this question was debated last spring: everyone was right!

Zaire has to be on the field. But Kizer needs to be the QB. Zaire future in the NFL is at another position.

I don't think you can take Kizer out, the way he's playing. Personally, I think Kizer's the best QB we've had in the Kelly era. He's the same age as Golson in 2012. Golson was mostly a game manager that year. Kizer's running the full offense. Also, in 2014 Golson started out well, but fizzled out with all the turnovers. Kizer's also a better on-field leader than Golson was.

It would be a shame for Zaire to get Wally Pipp'd, but those things happen.

Agree. Kizer has been just great and his pocket presence is just outstanding. He's also one of those players that makes plays when you absolutely need it.

Nice problem to have.

Just a guess but I have also heard that Wimbush will be fantastic. I see Kizer and Wimbush as our QB's with Malik making a very hard decision to Transfer due to circumstances. Great problem to have IMO.

I am a huge Kelly guy but I'm not sure I would have played Wimbush at all this season if I didn't have to . I would have wanted him to have 4 yrs left next season . Also what I think some lose sight of re these kids sticking around is that all of these kids w-o exception have NFL aspirations 1st and foremost and wearing red caps doesn't contribute to that resume .

I would have liked to have had Zaire Kizer and Wimbush spaced a year apart .

Either Continual etc or BigFellaFan should start at QB. There are so many of them the defense won't know who to tackle.

Haha funny you mention Bama and FSU. You may want to look up where Bama got their QB.

That being said, I'm glad things turned out the way they did with Golson being a Nole.

Any news on cook's hamstring?
PS Whitfield is tough as nails....

Cook is still day to day. Probably won't get much better until the offseason. He returned to practice yesterday like he has the last few weeks. They need to limit his time leading up to Clemson.

It's been great seeing Whitfield finally start making plays. He has crazy speed (elite track guy), but hadn't shown much on the football field. He returned a kickoff for a TD in the BCS title game and we had high hopes at that point, but didn't really do much last year. Very pleased with his performance last week and he and Everett really seem to work well together.

Really? As a big Kelly fan, who would you have put in at QB if Kizer gets hurt and Wimbush has no experience? The VanGorder Free scholie experiment? Uncle Rico's kid has no business being on the team.

I would not have played Wimbush unless something happened to Kizer

assuming Kizer doesnt get hurt playing Wimbush v UMASS burned a year of eligibility

playing Wimbush for ten plays in mop up duty doesn't seem worth it to me .

But you have used injuries as an excuse time after time. Would you rather have someone behind center who can win games or keep a year of eligibility and then makes excuses.
