Who else is loving the transfer portal?

It’s like having a third signing day! Makes being a college football fan even better.
I think it puts even more emphasis on your program's scouting department. There were 3K players in the transfer portal last year and probably even more this season. With good scouting you can really use the portal to beef up your roster/patch up any holes. It also has got to be great for coaches/program culture. Instead of a guy sitting around sulking -- bringing down team morale -- he can just leave with no penalty. Should have been this way from the get go.

It’s trash. I wish they would go back to the old sit out a year rule. When players are looking for their 4th school there is a problem. You got guys like from telling kids to transfer, taking 10 kids from another team, and starting QB’s and captains changing teams.

Build a culture on transients? Ever been to Vegas?

Great cultures are built on tough times, resilience and overcoming those obstacles- not rainbows and unicorns and bailing when the road gets tough.

I tend to be in favor of more, not less choices for college athletes. The Transfer Portal does provide this, so I like it. But in ND’s case I expect the Academic faculties to be stubborn in their refusal to allow potential undergraduate transfers the credits they need to enter ND’s hallowed halls. After all, ND sees herself as sine que non in college academics, like a fine wine now threatened by the addition of hardy but lower quality grapes.
There is a solution of course based on equivalence, but pride goeth before the fall season. And old prejudices will make themselves felt.
Interesting times.

It emphasizes the fact that college sports are not about being in college and getting an education that most others can't afford.

Been that way for decades. Follow the money.

I couldn't agree more. ND is an academic institution first and foremost. Anyone who believes that "old prejudices will make themselves felt" because ND won't swing open the door for transfers fails to understand ND's main mission.
1,000 % CORRECT !

Mack Brown stated that the players are being actively solicited by outside sources, agents snd others and that the players are being offered money to transfer.

That should be an eye opener to those who support the new transfer policy !

It has now turned into a bidding war fueled by outside sources and NOT internal motivation by the player transferring so that he can get more playing time.

MONEY is now the driving and corrupting force !

generally, guesstimate, 50+% of the portal kids it comes down to, you take my disappointment/underachiever in exchange for your disappointment/underachiever - a reshuffle of recruiting errors. Everyone looking to strike it rich!

As for ND:

"And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches toward Bethlehem to be born?"

The long awaited MESSIAH ROSTER?

Some last minute decommitments?

Yeats isn't saying.

Coach Mack Brown in North Carolina openly complaining about it. Players getting poached by other schools with cash. How is any of this amateur sports? The coach said he has players being told we give you x y & z. Isn’t that a free agent in the NFL.

I get emails from Anthony travel for football. I called them & said the game is done. Mayer & others will bail. Why would I go to that game without the marquee players? It’s BCS or bust

limit portal picks to 3 per university; if you enter the portal and if no one picks you then you are not a scholarship athlete, not enrolled and must apply for admittance to any university of your choice or wait till the portal lottery the following year; in meantime, you can join the great American labor force, working for a living.
