1999 when I started coaching I purchased and out of print book written in 1977 called the "The Offensive Side of Lou Holtz". The book gives a tutorial on the Twin Veer offense, which Lou Holtz turned into the I Veer offense at ND, However it also explained in detail Lou Holtz's philosophy on how to run an entire football program. I copied these musts do for victory from Page 50. and give them to my players the beginning of every season.

I. ON OFFENSE
1. Do not fumble.
2. Do not throw an interception
3. Do not blow an assignment
4. Do not draw a penalty
"SCORE EVERY TIME WE ARE INSIDE THE 20 YARD LINE"

!!. ON DEFENSE
1. Do not allow a long pass completion for a touchdown.
2. Do not allow a long run for a touchdown.
3. Intercept passes and return them for yardage and a touchdown.
4. Fore the the opponent to fumble.
"PLAY GREAT GOAL LINE DEFENSE"

These simple tenets have determined football games for a hundred years and will determine Saturday nights winner as well, GO IRISH!!!

to digress, what do you make of Jonas Morris CB's? Hayes is gone (injested snake oil) and this was the contingency or was this kid offerred off an impressive weekend visit?

DE or OLB?

I am on records saying before his ov to OSU that Hayes wasn't likely in my mind. I think the longer he takes to decide after his visit to OSU the better for ND. ND to get him I believe needs him to get on campus at least one more time.

Morris looks like an interesting name, athletic from what I saw on his highlight tape that is online. I like that he also plays WR but I like the other LB prospects we are supposedly in the running for more. I don't believe he is on the same level as any of the the LB's we got last year. Always a good sign in my opinion though when Mich St. wants him for Dantonio's D though.

for me, the path from USC to ND is a major alteration of direction and values, whereas tOSU seems to be more in tune with what the kid is looking for. I do not think he is comfy with the academic burden at ND.

and then.... Hayes's recruitment has ebbs and flows and twists and turns with ups and downs and in and outs! round and round we go!

Stanford plays to ND weakness. Stanford run offense to ND run defense. ND defense has given up 12 plays of 30 yards or more. Ouch. This according to Mike Farrell. ND run defense 68th. Not spectacular by any means. Good old Christian McCaffrey is 4th in rush yards per game, 2nd in total rushing, and 1st in all purpose. ND is going to have their hands full on the defensive side of the ball. Assuming the offense don't turn the ball over, I will not be worried about the Irish "O". Here's the rub. The Irish defense is 11 games in and they still make the same mistakes as early on. It won't be fixed by Saturday. So, IMO, the offense will have to improve in the Red Zone, don't turn the ball over, and score lots of points.

Score Points spread Stanford out no way we win the game running the football our defense will be exposed. This game reminds me of Clemson we need to Pass First we waited to long in the Clemson game.

Stanford will try to control the ball on offense because their pass defense isn't good and play opportunity defense. They will be trying to strip the ball like BC did since it worked so well

Which ever team has the best redzone offense that day will probably win.

The question is this: Can the ND defense get off the field on third down? They have to keep Stanford in 3 and long otherwise they will get killed. Stanford will move the length of the field in 18 plays and 8 minutes if they are 3rd and short all the time.
