I'd like to hear Coach or anyone else give their opinion on what ND has been doing wrong. It seemed clear in the 2010 debacle that ND wasn't stopping the fullback. I read a lot of posts at the time saying that taking away the fullback is the key to stopping the triple option, and that this was Holtz's opinion as well.

That doesn't seem to be the issue anymore, but I don't really know how to evaluate it. I'd appreciate the thoughts of any inside football guys on why ND has struggled so much in some years but not others, and what ND could do better against both Navy and Georgia Tech this year.

My uneducated guess is that when ND had a good defense, they stopped the option fine. When ND had young or inexperienced defenses, they struggled. I'm hoping with a more veteran linebacking corps will do better and ND holds its own this year.
