Just watched the first half of the MSU game...

What I liked:
Alize's first catch when he bowled over three guys to get the first down... (That's what we've been talking' about -- and it is "only the beginning, only just the start...")
Wimbush's arm. That throw to EQ (should have stayed in bounds) in the end zone was perfect.
That throw to Dexter on the next play after that scramble was just as perfect and showed a whole other skill set. Channelling Elway on the first, Fauve on the second.
Bws first throw to EQ (nice diving catch) -- Stephenson would have caught it in stride and walked in.
But my favorite throw was that simple low throw to EQ on 3rd and six for a first down to keep the second drive alive. That is the throw that will get us places...
Julian "where is the" Love (right here) on D: next time Julian does something like that (this kid is the real deal) the ND crowd HAS TO STRIKE UP THE FOLLOWING....
"All you need is love, dah-dah-dah-dah-daaah, all you need is love, love... love is all you need."
Our punter and our kicker will both play on Sundays. Keep it up guys!
The defense, especially when our first D held them on 4th and goal (were they first and goal?) when the game was over... The pride and togetherness they showed after that play speaks volumes for the changes Elko has put in... As Clyde Frazier once said: "Pride, and a little defense."
Crawford's strip -- damn, that guy is a criminal, the good kind, like Bogey -- stealing from the rich and giving to the Irish. What an amazing play, and the most important one of the game. I'll have another.

What I kinda liked but I'm not really sure:
BK's dance was like a irishman before he he had his first Guinness... Self-concious, a little awkward but strangely made me smile at the same time. Now there's that red face!

What I didn't like:
Polian! Go for the block on that 4th and 25 when they were on their five!!!! Our rusher makes a half-assed effort, and the blockers are terrible on every single play. Finke is road kill every time. Do better on punt returns!
That f-ing spear non call, that the MSU guy executes on Wimbush. It would have been a cleaner hit if the guy pulled a 9MM Luger. I mean c'mon if that wasn't an ejection I don't know what is... Hard to watch.

But in the end, a really good game for the Irish. Bodi, let's have another.

What did I miss guys?

Great post ! The Irish have an excellent team ! They will get a huge bump in excellence when Kevin Stepherson plays ! He is better than Will Fuller ! He just has some issues like all the great ones do.. Kind of like that genius from Goodwill Hunting--I hope Kelly has a friend like Robin Williams to get through to him..

What I liked:
The opening drive, the 80-yard drive following the fumble into the end zone; our first drive of the second half (you score a field goal, we'll score a TD) and the second to last drive when we responded to their failure to score by going down the field and kicking a field goal.

What I didn't like:

I still don't think Brandon Wimbush can pass. He overthrew ESB on the opening drive; I thought the pass you cite to the end zone was overthrown and that's why ESB drifted over the line. I also saw a couple thrown up for grabs.

Our special team play is not so hot.

Respectfully disagree on about BW's passing ability. The end zone pass was put in the perfect position, EQ was running too close to the backline. Totally his fault that he didn't keep his feet in -- both announcers agreed with me. The ball was head high. The overthrow at the beginning, maybe... as I watched the replay I thought EQ didn't have to dive for that one.

The Smythe catch (brave) was perfectly thrown but he has a tendency to leave his receivers vulnerable... Maybe too much time in the air on that one? Still it was in the perfect position just gave the safety too much time to come up.

I do remember one 'out' right after he was speared where he probably shouldn't have thrown it. I was afraid he had a concussion as his head snapped to the ground when that guy made the cheap spear. Should have been ejected. I thought BW had a great game passing. A big improvement.

He's definitely improving, but I still think he has long way to go. i did like the fact that he did not try to take off every time he dropped back. My big fear is if he tries to run 12-15 times a game, he'll never last the season.

Brady Quinn said it usually takes a year -- he said it probably won't completely click until '18. Look at both Quinn and Clausen's early stats. It takes time. Let's hope Kelly and his coaches can speed up the process as this could be a special year.

I like being able to critique our 4th string running back the last couple games. That's generally a good sign!
