What happened to our defense?

Everyone is fixated on Wimbush with this woes and the O-line not good against good defenses. Both very true. But what I have yet to hear about, is the breakdown of our defense. Our defense was stout (averaging 18 points per game allowed). Wake scored 37 and Miami 41. Is Vangorder back on the defensive staff or something? Or has Elko been exposed like Vangorder after his few good games?

We knew they were going to run in the fourth quarter and could not stop them. I don't think they threw a pass in that qtr.

At the end of the day you have to have a couple of studs. Notre dame squandered a solid National championship chance in 2015. The talent was there, but the scheme wasn't. This team lacks superstars on the defense. Don't get me wrong there is a lot of good players, but there is nothing close a Jaylon Smith or say Sheldon Day. It all starts and ends with recruiting. Coney and Love are special players, but the safety position has to be better. Hopefully Allen and Simon are ready to play from day one next year.

What happened to our OC? What happened to the development of our QB? What happened to Dexter? What happened to our Receivers? Lots of questions.

Great question. I wonder what happened to ND's defense starting with the fourth quarter of the WF game until now. It's like ND fell asleep at the wheel when in complete control of their destiny to play for the NC.

Miami is not as good nor is ND as bad. WF could've pulled it off with five/six quarters.

To dexters credit there was a point I noticed his frustration and him wanting the ball , when he was running well.

I heard an analysis of the game on a Notre Dame radio show and they mentioned the slow developing plays. They mentioned Josh slow movement to the LOS, looking for the home run ball instead of taking what was available. They felt Dexter was the answer possibly. And, they mentioned BW's non existent running game. They wondered out loud why BW is not developing as a passer. A caller called in and said it is the Michael Vick syndrome with coaches. Athletes at QB who can run and spend less time developing a throwing motion.

The D fell apart in the second half of the WF game. It’s now on a downward trajectory gearing up for cut blocks.

Miami scored 24 of 41 points off turnovers. ND plays better defensively when they play aggressively.
