The following is what I think I know about the Owls.
OFFENSE

-Good veteran offensive line that will lead the way for a Junior RB that had 14 TDs and almost 1,000 yards rushing while playing behind Thomas last year. Offensive line returns 3 from last years team but the new center is considered an upgrade from last years. This concerns me because of the question marks ND has with their front 7. Will be a great litmus test to see where ND is with being able to stop the run.

-Has a good trio of WR's that had great production last year and will test our secondary. Depending on how the NEW QB is these WR's could make it a very tough day on ND's secondary which we can all agree is another concern of ND fans going into the season. That leads to my last point on the Temple offense.

-A new QB. Can the ND defense take advantage of a new QB or will they make a new QB look like a hall of famer? I've seen ND defenses make average QB's look like superstars in the in the not so distant past and I'm hoping this is not the case on Saturday. If it is this could turn into a loss.

DEFENSE

-Head coach is Florida's defensive coordinator from the last couple of years. Florida has had a great defense the couple of years under him.

-Replacing 6 out of 7 of their front seven which should bode well for the ND run game. ND's offensive line is considered ON PAPER to be one of the best in the country and this could be a matchup they take full advantage of by imposing their will running the football and setting up play action.

-Secondary is very good. They return 3 out of 4 starters from last years team which was one of the best defenses in the country. A couple of these guys are projected to play on Sundays. Will this secondary take advantage of a new QB and a suspect ND WR group. Double EQ and play man with the others? I feel this could be a big game for Mack if they decide to double EQ.

That's all I have. Would love to see what other information or opinions others on this board have on this matchup and specifically information on the Owls.

I'm sticking to my 31-23 Irish victory!!!

You sound like Lou Holtz describing the opponent to his team.

"Depending on how the NEW QB is these WR's could make it a very tough day on ND's secondary which we can all agree is another concern of ND fans going into the season." No, I don't agree - our Secondary actually played pretty well towards the end of last season and all reports from camp seemed to indicate a group maturing & coming together. Do I think they are our "strength?" No, but I am not as worried as I was last year.....

"Will this secondary take advantage of a new QB and a suspect ND WR group." I don;t view our WR's as "suspect" at all - if anything, I think they are just inexperienced - but again, performance in camp has been strong and we added two experienced receivers. Also see Chase as stepping up big time.

I hope you are right. Coleman being in the starting lineup at safety is a major concern of mine. The safety position in general is a concern. I'm taking the wait and see approach to this years team before buying into the pre season hype of certain players because it's being reported they are having a good camp. I've heard that before only to be hugely disappointed during the season.

I'm far more optimistic about ND's WR's. But again I need to see the production on the field on Saturday's instead of on the practice field. I feel EQ and Mack can have huge seasons. Beyond them I'm interested to see who makes an impact on Saturday's. We will see how it shakes out on Saturday. I'm hoping how I feel these kids can produce on the field comes to fruition but I need to see it on the field. So pumped the season is back.

Do we have a "suspect WR group"?

One poster here said he talked with an analyst that told him Temple is no foregone conclusion........that they are a very good football team.......very tough, etc. yada yadda yadda.........

Yeah..........sure..........whatever

Creampuff...........ND by 3 TD's. (see Stanford vs. Rice)

Temple went 10-4, won their conference, lost by a TD to Penn State, smoked Navy in their CCG. They are not Rice.

Would anyone honestly be surprised if we somehow keep it a close game? I am almost expecting it to be.

I'd expect a 40-10 type win against teams like Temple, North Western, Duke, Tulsa, Navy, etc. Sigh, Yet, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a close game, going into the 4th quarter, ND pulling out the win by 10.

Why do we need to know anything about Temple? If you can't beat them by double digits what the hell is going on with ND?

I will pass this along to Bryan Driskell, the analyst I'm speaking of, & let him know your opinion of his work on this site. You are already on the list as is, I'm sure Bryan & Lou (who has covered CFB since the '80s) will appreciate your comments on their contributions to Notre Dame Rivals.

Also, its funny how you think that one team can't beat another good team by multiple scores. Just because Bryan thinks they are a good team doesn't mean ND can't dominate them, it just means ND is a better team. Really good teams can beat good, tough teams by large scores.

But back to your "yada yadda, yeah, sure whatever..." Since you live on ND board as a Florida State fan, why not subscribe & read/watch/listen to exactly what I speak of? Then you can talk trash directly to Bryan & Lou's face?

You just made this whole situation much easier.

ND has a ton of unknowns. QB, D Line, new OC, DC, spec teams, system.

Can't imagine it doesn't take 2-3 games to clear that hurdle. Temple is in the same boat so talent wins but I don't expect a 50-0.

DUO doesn't know anything about CFB, he just can't get on the FSU board & ND is one of a few teams that has a free open board still.

Rice is considered one of the worst teams in the country, below 120 ranking, this year. Temple has averaged 10 wins the last couple years & put many players into the NFL.

But don't let any actual real football knowledge get in the way of DUO's posts.

Fair enough, no doubt our safety position is in fact still an unknown for us. The NCAA has really f'd up on Alohi's situation (not a shocker they'd screw this up - no reason for this to have been resolved by now) as he would have been our week 1 starter. The safety position feels a lot like last year's DB situation where we will have some young studs learning on the job and I think start "getting it" by week 3 or 4. We definitively need them to learn fast. The difference for me is the coaching staff on the D side.

Alohi would not be ND's week 1 starter regardless.
ND ran its practice reps as if he would get the waiver, just in case, & he still ran with the 2's & 3's. According to all that witnessed the practices, he was CLEARLY behind a few others during camp.
If he gets his waiver he will be used more for depth.

Chip Long faced Temple last year and beat them with his offense. He has more talent at ND to work with and Temple lost a lot of talent. Having said that, our Irish were 4-8 last year. Let's take them one at a time and recognize the Irish haven't proven anything yet. GO IRISH!

D needs to run the ball well and everything else will fall into place. The OL needs to be the best run blocking unit in the country... stick to the run game ... play action to big targets ESB, Mack, Chase and take a few shots down field but control the LOs on Offense .

Temple has three offensive players that will be playing on Sundays . Both wide receivers and the running back are NFL players . Like Norte Dame
new QB and we will see how he handles being a first time starter away from home . Norte Dame will win the game but it won't be a blow out . Trust me !!!!

Everyone seems to forget that we played a ranked Temple team 2 years ago and beat them 24-20? They were a tough team, and like most teams.... they will really want to beat ND.

hard to imagine a team coming off a horrid 4-8 season calling anyone a "cream puff." My guess is Temple may be saying exact same thing about Notre Dame.

That's what Urban Meyer says about Michigan.
I would worry more about the 1-3 record against your rivals than ND.
And after Harbaugh goes 0-5 against Meyer he will head back to the NFL with nothing.
