Say about B. Kelly ?It wasn't too complimentary

Heard it. It was bad.

He also insinuated that BK might have NFL offers this off season. Would he really be up for an NFL job?

It was bad? What did he say? Can't imagine any NFL team would have interest in Brian Kelly. Hell, did they see how ridiculous his game plan was yesterday. Who the hell would hire him?

Maybe some team with a lousy record will want to hire him as a PR flack to pass the buck.

Summing up: "Kelly won't be fired but he has blamed everyone but himself for this season. He is like the Titanic. Who would want to play for him? He is a miserable human being."

The biggest obstacle that Kelly faces, aside from himself, is the administration at ND. That same administration is also the source of BK's job security, making the HC job unattractive to the very elite candidates.

Kelly has to go. Look what happened at LSU last year when they should have fired Miles. Why waste another season of failure.

Finebaum feels Kelly's job is secure - so do I.

Not only will Kelly make it through this season - at his current ND winning percentage he will likely retain his job indefinitely.....Kelly is coming off a 10-3 season (2015), just signed a 6-year extension and Swarbrick has a man-crush on Kelly, whom he hired (Kelly is 'Swarbrick's man').

Don't overlook the fact that Swarbrick is learning how to be an AD "on the job" (yet another brilliant hire) which is how ND ended up with Kelly in the first place.

Despite the fact that Kelly has not won a marquee game at ND, including Bowl games, Kelly has won a minimum of 8 games in each of his previous 5 seasons at ND (although 8 wins this season appears highly unlikely).

I got flamed off the premium board last season for comparing Kelly to Frank Beamer (hmmm maybe it was because people thought that I was putting Beamer down)

Kelly's record is not National Title material, just good enough for him to keep his job if he wants it (why any NFL team would offer him a head-coaching job is completely beyond me).

If The big money donors want Kelly gone, Swarbrick, his extension or anything else will make no difference. Jack will not fall on his sword for Kelly or anyone else. See the firing of BVG. That was to appease the PTB. Jack just passed along the message. As he will if they decide to shit can Kelly. Swarbrick will follow the party line, he likes the gig.

Steve - we can only hope you are right.

BGI CANADA. This is what I have been told by friends who are tied into The University. It is like a re-play of The Davie firing. Many influential big time players are very upset with the direction of the program. And Kelly's inability to take ownership and press conference melt-downs do not bode well for BK. The money is no factor. They paid Weis and Kelly millions at the same time. I trust what I am being told. Time will tell. The same friends were 100 percent correct about Davie, Willingham and Weis.

It would be best if BK found another job. Firing is not going to happen. waaay to many good teams having bad years to offset this disgusting year. Look around the country.... LSU, Oregon, USC, Texas, MSU, FSU etc are underachieving. The AD is going to have a tough time find "THE" guy. Who is that guy ? Tough call. I stand by what I said last week this team won't win another game. The team has hit rock bottom because the coach has lost his team and there is no turnaround . Army is a win so 3-9 it will be . He makes terrible decisions in every game and has no clue how to run the ball. Never did never will. That's why they lose so many close games. they cannot finish a game on the ground. Dogshit running game for 7 years.

How many Power 5 coaches have gone 3-9 or 4-8 and kept their jobs after five + years on the job? Kelly is gone.

I don't think that The ND administration and Swarbrick gave the same type of contract extension as Weis. Weis was paid in full after he was fired. In a lot of cases when a coach is let go before his contract is up and then takes another job ,the pay out would be less . The salary for his new coaching job would be subtracted from his payout, . I think this is one of the ways it's done

I also think C Weis was paid in full no matter what job he took after he was let go . Double- dipping ? Jobs at Florida, Kansas City Chiefs, then head coach at the University Of Kansas.
Does anybody on this board know how coaching contracts are structured ?

Don't agree with Fine baum often, but he hit the nail on the head here. Brian jelly is a miserable person and why would anyone want to play for him.

Only about 50% of what he said was correct. First, Kelly never blamed BVG. In fact even when he announced his firing he never really blamed him to the extent he has blamed his players.

Second, NFL.. really? What NFL team is going to hire Kelly!

Third miserable human being? Really? Kelly may be a bad coach but he's not a miserable human being. Finebaum is a tool that equates morals with how many games you win. Why not take coaches like Saben, Meyer and Jimbo to task. Coach who don't care at all about if their players learn to read as long as they play football.

2 mins of my life I'll never get back wasted listening to that guy.

He sure comes off as an insufferable ass to me. BVG was fired? That's putting the blame on BVG. Damn the guy only got 2 years to show what he's got and Kelly is on 7.

I'm fairly certain Kelly didn't fire BVG. I can't prove it but there are more than enough credible sources that suggest as much. If you listen to Kelly after the game and when he announced the firing it sure didn't sound like a guy that wanted to fire his DC.

Either way Kelly went out of his way in every PC to point out that BVG was not the main problem and was taking the fall because he's the DC and that's what happens.

More cover for kelly

Around The Horn also fried Kelly today for blaming players rather than himself. Negative recruiting will kill ND this year if Kelly is not fired. Three more losses will mean no bowlgame. Immediately after ND loses to SC Kelly needs to be fired before the month of Nov ends. This will send a message to recruits that things will get better.

Put me down in the camp that believes you have no clue of what you are talking about. Disagree with every major point you have attempted to make. And within the industry, Swarbrick is considered one of the best. Every athletic program at the University is top notch and playing in the best Olympic sport conference in the nation. Basketball, given the environment of the sport and the temptations within is doing as well as can be expected if not exceeding expectations. Football has been troublesome, this is a hiring problem and a problem within the culture of the University that currently prohibits the success within today's changing competitive nature. It is NOT an Independent sport problem. If this is a sample of your thought process I can see why no one has ever taken you seriously. This football problem is not just about wins, but how we are playing and the HC's inability to adapt to the demands of this kind of national spotlight. Since when has Canada known anything about anything. Last time we had a mess here, a Canadian was the leading man that caused it.

Last time you had a mess "here"? Are you referring to ND or America?... Because I don't know what Canada has to do with your gang problems, obesity epidemic, immense national debt, mass shootings, plummeting education system, over crowded prison system, police vs civilian issues, or the two maniacs you have runNing for the leader of the "free world"... Or do you not consider any of those topics to be part of your "mess"?

Since when does a Canadian know anything, about anything? We've got our own share problems, some unique to Canada, others not so much... But by just about every possible comparative measure, Canadians live longer, healthier, more educated, wealthier lives than our American brothers, if that's a product of what we don't know, I'm all for living in an ignorant state of bliss and American worship.

Lighten up man, a freshman Canadian may be one of the best players on the ND roster, despite what he obviously does not (and apparently, inherently cannot) know.

Well, my policy is the more the media chirps on something the more I lean in the opposite direction. So, let ESPN chirp away.

If you disagree with me regarding football that is OK - everyone is entitled to their own views and opinions....even women (Howard Hall is a female dorm if I remember correctly).

However, considering that Canada is consistently ranked as one of the top 5 countries in the world in which to live - I guess at least some of us must know something about something!

You sound a lot like NDs head FB coach - always looking for someone else to blame for a problem (a statement from an American sports journalist).

BTW, I vividly recall Canada (gladly) saving the bacon of several US diplomats from being taken captive in Iran in 1979......it's good that some Canadians knew something that day (that you help your neighbors and allies when needed) - even when it meant putting their own personal welfare at risk.

Thankfully, very few Americans have a brilliant thought pattern similar to yours.
