ND deserves to be ranked #3 in tonight's rankings and that's pretty much what most believe. I'm going to guess that they come in around 6/7, at the hands of ESPN wanting to stir up some controversy. They know ND has a huge fan base nation wide and is their best bet to get people to watch their shows. If ND comes in at #3 all of us will be happy and won't feel a need to get involved in the conversation of it all. Just a thought.

Anything inside the top 5, I'll be happy with. If they are outside the top 5 I'll be pissed.

Part of me wants this team to be ranked like #6 so they have even more fire up their arses. Part of me realizes this team probably doesn't need any more fire under them! They are pumped and ready to dominate. Go Irish

This team 100% deserves a top 3 spot in these initial rankings. They earned it up to this point. They may not have a top 5 win but they have a very impressive resume to go along with looking the part on the field. Go Irish!!!

You are aware that ESPN has no input into the selections, right?

Saw a clip of one of the committee members today and it's already started. Said Bama will get credit for their win vs FSU because they will take into account that Francois played almost the entire game vs them. Really? That team is a dumpster fire that no QB would have saved this year. The committee is going to look at that as a GOOD win for Bama? That's a joke. Let the games begin. I have a feeling when it comes to ND the games will begin tonight. Hope I'm wrong.

They shouldn't. I just don't believe that. Selection show is on ESPN right? I'm about 60/40 that they will play a hand in causing some controversy to help out the ratings of some of their shows during the week. What better way than to bring ND into that conversation. Again I hope I'm wrong but if ND is outside the top 5 I think we have our answer. This team has earned and deserves to be in the top 5. No questions asked.

So since ND plays on NBC do you also beliebe they have input in deciding games?

Not at all. I'm just saying that ESPN is struggling right now and they are certainly looking for ways to up viewership. Games are decided on the field. But political BS can certainly happen behind closed doors. If we don't believe it can then I think we are naïve.

If they are not #3 the committee should be removed on the spot/
I'll give them a couple spots of leeway. But if they are not in the top 5 I think most if not all who know anything about this college football season will agree that it's complete BS.

ESPN has nothing to do with the rankings, they are just reporting what the committee decides.

Controversy is what they want. That's what keeps the people coming back for more, even though it will turn out the same.

How about all the seasons. It's predictable as the sun coming up.

Now that's funny. It's the complete opposite. You do know that 95% of the bowls are played on "Entertainment" spn.

In the first CFP release a few yrs ago TCU was in the top 4 every week until the last one. While it's better to be in than out, tonight's release is largely meaningless

Stats say you have a 45% chance of making the playoff if you are in the first top 4, 72% if you are in the top 2 in the first poll. No guarantee, but no harm in being in there.

Right? I understand some of the people on ESPN are annoying to listen to and aren't pro ND but this is ridiculous.

ND will, no doubt, come in somewhere in the top 6. There's four more games to get there and, who knows, ND could be nr. 1 or not ranked by season's end. Tonight, in essence, means nothing more than bragging rights.
