If ND wants to even entertain winning 7+ games they need to drop the spread fantasy this year. They need to become an offense more akin to Harbaughs Stanford and early Michigan offenses. 22 personnel 12 Personnel. Hell maybe Jumbo sets with a guard at FB. Sustained drives. Let the defense rest and get you field position. Which, by the way they had great field position on multiple drives. And got zero points. Imagine if they ran this style last week. They win that game. 27-9. It's the 2021 Iowa blueprint. This was somewhat obvious with the depth and talent issues at WR but it is more obvious now. Without a runner at QB you need to add more blockers at the point of attack. It also makes Mayer a bigger threat and matchup problem because if you try to double him you leave gaps open to run through.

Don't disagree. The overwhelming concern though is that the OL has not played very well.

pound out games; use the behemoths up front to go straight ahead! they should be able to remember ‘straight ahead’.

Sometimes that's scheme related. And... from a potential and talent perspective this is the one area ND is potentially better than most everyone on the schedule.

When you can’t get a first down on short yardage situations it doesn’t bode well for establishing an efficient running game
