This is why Kelly will not be retained after this season.

Academic scandal at ND is the last thing a coach that is underperforming needs. Charlie and Ty never had the scandals or the off the field problems that ND has had under Kelly. Yet, rightfully so they were fired. Kelly can again blame everyone else in the room for the latest off the field issues. However, the buck stops with the guy calling the shots and setting the standard with the program. Kelly deflects blame to everyone around him. He can point all the fingers he wants. Bottom line is, Kelly is running out of fingers.

Zorich ,
I agree with you , and what astonish me even more is the number of athletes involved. If it were one or two , I would buy the argument that it was just few kids that were lazy or of bad character, and there is no
way a coach when he recruits can foresee that. I would agree that no one can predict the future !
However, when I was a school counselor during my roughly 30 year career, I had a number of college
coaches come into my office, and interview a prospective player, and when that interview was over also
went over records and got my imput about character, discipline problems, hard work, ect. The type of things
that would not necessarilly show up on a transcript.

My biggest fear is we fire Kelly and bring in a moron like Les Miles or Lane Kiffin and the program falls further into oblivion.

I wish I were confident that he wouldn't be back but with that contract extension it's going to cost ND a lot of money to get rid of him.

Not sure what has changed since the discovery and admission of the university 3-4 years ago? The fact the NCAA dropped penalties? ND and Swarbrick knew everything years ago, if they were going to fire BK, they should have done it then.

The fact that the NCAA levied punishment shouldn't have any bearing on ND's internal investigation, which happened years ago.

Exactly right. There were no coaches or anyone in the adminstration implicated in this investigation by ND or the NCAA.

This is a great point. Nothing that happened this week is "news," as much as we want it to be. I'll blindly hope it is an impetus for change nonetheless.

Will not happen Wish it would. Jack should be fired also Wont happen Wish it would. How many times is our AD going to give extensions to losers? People need to be fired for costing their employer millions

No. They didn't cost their employers millions. The employer cost themselves millions. Mind boggling trying to grasp your way of thinking. The ND admin made their own bed with every shitty deal, dont blame it on the coach/recipient.

If he gets another job as a coach and he most certainly will ND will most likely not have to pay a decent portion of his remaining contact .

reading how wasted he is, he would probably sit out 2017. Then wait and take advantage of the coaching panic of 2018

OK defend your post- I said Jack and Kevin white, the Ad's cost their employer millions. Now explain how that is wrong and why my way of thinking is so hard for you to understand

It is our stupid AD's who recommend extending contracts.

And our coaches can also be under the label of costing ND millions. Losing has a price.

This "scandal" happened more than two years ago. If something was going to happen as a result, it would have already happened.

If BK had a terrific year in 2016 and won a major bowl recently etc etc etc, these anti-Kelly fans would say that the latest cheating scandal was not BKs fault and he had nothing to do with it and the NCAA and media were overreacting. Nothing to see here. Nobody blames BK for the Butler and Redfield situations....before the season. They do now. Funny how that works when you are trying to build a case in the court of public opinion. I think the anti-BK crowd would be better served sticking with his decision making, development of players, unwillingness to adjust, wins / losses. As I stated in another thread, Ara had a major scandal involving players and big time suspensions but he won, so there was no pressure or blame on the coach.

Kelly's contract extension costs are shrinking fast. The loss of future revenues, goodwill and frankly, fan interest will offset that quite soon. The sooner the Kelly era is closed out, the better for Notre Dame's reputation rehab....which cannot be understated and poo-pooed. The tarnish can't be painted over on that dome and those helmuts...it has to be removed first.

this is false. As a life-long Notre Dame fan....I have, and have always had, zero tolerance for academic scandal....which has supported my faith in Notre Dame. That faith has been shaken on Kelly's watch.....records be dammed.

Don't watch the games. Kelly will be coaching ND next season.

waiting for this recruiting class to implode; seems a matter of time. Another defensive recruiting whiff and missing out on elite OL prospects will extend the teams decline.

This is absolutely true. You act like this is the first scandal, academic or otherwise, ND has ever had and you and the other fans continued to support and watch. Quit using this academic scandal which involved students only as a talking point to get rid of BK.

You cannot possibly read my mind....and it appears that you are having difficulties reading your own....because you are making things up about posters you have zero knowledge of.
I am hardly the first to suggest that this academic scandal couldn't have come at a worse time for Brian Kelly, given the state of affairs on the field. I have been following Notre Dame football since the early 60's.....so I've seen a thing or two at Notre Dame.

Strike Two.

It didn't come now. It came two plus years ago.

until sanctions are applied...it hasn't happened. The situation at UNC has been going on since Dean Smith was coaching...so what is your point?

Huh? That's like saying a crime hasn't happened until the perpetrator is sentenced.

I obviously missed something. Your prior post didn't make any sense.
just because the violations occurred two years ago...doesn't mean that Notre Dame volunteered to vacate wins two years ago....does it? Obviously they did not. The impact if the academic fraud is happening right now, not two years ago. thats the point. Its Kelly's tough luck that the double whammy is happening right now.

And I even longer. Longevity doesn't make anyone especially worldly or brilliant. What does the academic scandal have to do with BK other than in appearance to those who already have a negative perception of the coach? Your faith is shaken now because you want BK out for other reasons. Why wasn't your faith shaken with all the other scandals and HCs? My original point was if BK had a terrific season in 2016, no one, including you, would say word one about it. That I am sure of. You need to learn a lesson here. Just because I have been a follower since the late 50s and you the 60s, doesn't make us any more wiser that anyone else, so you can stop patting yourself on the back. If BK or his staff was involved in a cover up, then you might have something to hang your britches on.

You still cannot project your knowledge of my values on this....I can, and only I can. You have a nasty habit of speaking for others on this site....trying to put words in others mouths. Not gonna happen with me. Your speculation about Notre Dame's record determining my standards for academic integrity is bogus and ignorant. You don't know me, nor what I stand for. Strike Three.

You mean the majority of his posts.

I am still trying to figure out how something that happened two years ago and was well known to the ND administration two years ago has somehow changed in scope because penalties were handed down this week.
