This is the question all Kelly supporters need to answer

I certainly understand your point. I just can't stomach another 4 win season, and i definitely can't hope for one.

Let me ask you this: what do you prefer next season: 9 wins or 4 wins?

-0- until a mid season correction!

was hard to arrive at this as a direction, but if I ever want to see ND 'great' again then tough love is needed!

gotta Laugh at Bodi, he jumps on and off the Kelly wagon so often his butt skid makes are all over the board!

this is a guy with absolutely no convictions to go with his lack of intellect.

Blown about by every breeze Bodi

the fair question for those mentioned above is what do you expect change if no change takes place?

do you think recruiting is really pointing in an upward direction or that that talent is competitive for Top 15 level performance? Do you believe that the team has the staff leadership that will give ND an advantage in games, and that it will bring in talent to develop.

Where are the improvements to come from?

Despicable character issues are aside from this question.

Maybe add a couple of 3* star recruits who couldn't get in elsewhere. Kelly has to hope that he can keep rest of class together. If one of the TE's or a DE leaves, you will know he's having trouble. If he brings back Hudson as DC you know the market has been frozen on ND for now. Next year will be frustrating, but disappointing will be the coming realization that with these last 3 lower than expected recruiting classes and the depth issues they bring the 2018 season doesn't have much hope either. You are watching the decay of the program.

We are a DC away from the Quick Lane bowl! If we don't make it next year the excuse will be that we missed the extra practices this year.

either one is better than 2012 and 2014 records.

I think Kelly made 2 mistakes that stand out to me and both are based on his loyalty.

First was his loyalty to EG who he recruited and brought in his first year. He stuck with EG all the way through. I speculate that Gunner Kiel complained to Kelly about the cheating QB in the summer but Kelly didn't listen. Kiel left and Kelly was stuck with EG. Then came the cheating scandal, the wasted year, and then EG abandoned Kelly for his 5th year.

Second was his loyalty to BVG. Kelly stuck with him way too long and it is clear with BVG gone the defense improved.

What did you think about his loyalty to Sam Mustipher?

1.) Kelly IS NOT going anywhere. He has stated it, Jack has stated it.
2.) Strong got fired (or will be fired) from Texas for a reason -- and you think he will do better at ND?
3.) Kelly needs to step away from his "comfort zone" and get a big time hire as a DC -- someone who will come in and light up some asses.
4.) Kelly and Harry H need to look at themselves in the mirror and ask why cannot this offensive line get any push? Then, Kelly needs to look at himself in the mirror and ask "Why am I spreading people out on the 1 - 2 yard line"? This "this is who we are" relative to operating from the shotgun does not fly.
Agree with all except #2.
Maybe Strong wasn't a good head coach at Texas, but he did alright at Louisville.
And he's PROVEN himself as a DC. He would be a great fit as DC at Notre Dame.

I just don't see it happening, as ND wouldn't pay enough to justify him losing out on part of the $10+ million he's owed from the Texas buyout.

Van Gorder was one of the highest paid assistants in the country. Why wouldn't we make Strong the same?

Maybe we could. But he's owed $10 million from Texas. He risks losing part of that if he takes another job next year. Don't know how much he stands to lose, but a conservative guess would be 3-4 million. What does a top assistant at ND make?

Does the ND pay justify losing 3-4 mill from Texas?? This is the question Strong would need to answer.

Per TOS, and supported by info gleaned from ND's federal tax return, Van Gorder was the 9th highest paid assistant coach in the country. He was the Cam Cameron of defensive coordinators.

ND sure does a great Job of vastly overpaying shitty football coaches. How about ND AD hire some coaches who prove it on the field for 3 years or more before you start giving away the farm...

ND athletic director's going back to White and now his twin brother Sawbrick have really cost ND not only a lot of $$, but they have also brought inept football as a part of the Notre Dame tradition.

Well at least the are champions of bad contracts...raise that number one flag.

Charlie Strong would be a mistake....If he were hired, when ND stumbles early and BK is on the chopping block...the faction to promote Strong to head coach will rise. He would be a disaster as head coach...but Charlie Stong is not anybody's temp. There really is no place for him at Notre Dame...The next DC is a temp....so the hire can and should reflect that.
