The formula for beating ND

was exposed last night by Georgia, sell-out against the run, make ND beat you through the air. Wimbush is in experienced and not a polished passer.

That would probably result in a pretty good season for us because most teams on our schedule won't have the defense of Georgia. If they can stuff our run and put pressure on our QB, sure, but most teams we play won't be able to do both. While Wimbush is pretty bad, without that kind of pressure on him, he'll be good enough in most situatons.

That was my feeling after the Temple game. Wimbush may have a good arm, but I don't think he is as accurate as Kizer was.

I think that it is a little too early to judge Wimbush. He was under pressure all night long. On those few occasions when he had time our receivers seemed to be covered. One thing this game showed me is that
Both our play calling was awful, and our o line is nowhere near as good as some of us thought heading into this season.

That''s the formula? Lose the game until the last few minutes, then get around their ND's first round NFL pick OL and blindside the QB. That will knock the ball loose and you can get the final score for the win.

If that's the formula to beat ND, I'm good with it.

Clearly that will work well, as long as you have Georgia's front seven. Nobody else we play will have Georgia's front seven, including USC.

USC used the same formula against Stanford who has possibly the second worst QB in the PAC 12. Plus they have an offense. Unlike Georgia. That will be an ass whipping if things don't get remarkably better on the offensive side of the ball. Thank God Cam Smith transferred because he and St Brown have been the only bright spots consistently. And even they have been pedestrian. But is it the WR corps or is it the QB? The next couple weeks will really tell because I do not believe BC, MSU or Miami are very good.

I was at the game and one of the things I noticed was that they didn't seem to be afraid of any of our receivers other than ESB. They played a lot of straight up man with a safety over the top to ESB's side. The other safety would then creep up for run support.

Having said that, our offense was bad on a lot of levels. I thought the play-calling was terrible from the start. Too much passing, too many 3rd and 9's where we ran primary routes at 5 yds, Dexter not getting a single carry. Wimbush looked shaky, especially after he got hurt. The receivers couldn't get open and when they did, they had way too many drops.

As I said in an earlier post, I didn't see much of the game. But the 15 or so minutes of playing time I saw made me wonder why all of our passing plays were so slow to develop. No quick slant ins, no quick drop offs to a running back, etc.

Poor play calling / run scheme is weak like always / we have good O linemen (don't we currently have some in the NFL who are pretty good ?) and aren't at least two on the current line projecting to be NFLers ? The run scheme under BK has been abysmal from day one and continues to be the same. We have enough top flight O linemen to have a dominant / sound run game - but we don't and never have under BK.

Wimbush will take awhile to develop and gel w/ his WR's.

A lot of middle of the road teams over the years have been able to stop or drastically slow down the Irish O due to the above. Defending ND under BK has been pretty simple for D coordinators over the years. That is not going to change after what I saw vs. Ga.
Maybe we can win 8 games - For ND that would be a fantastic season. Get to a weed eater level bowl game and have a chance to win a bowl game.

Go Ivey league Irish Go !!!!

I thought when he had time, he was a very good passer. He also had a couple of drops. He was under some big time pressure

Wimbush was under pressure because (1) GA, like other opponents, don't really respect ND's running game and (2) because so many of ND's passing plays take so long to develop.
