As expected, Notre Dame graduate Yared Nuguse will compete in the 1,500-meter final on the track in the Paris Olympics.
Nuguse won his semifinal Sunday with a time of 3 minutes and 31.72 seconds. He was just ahead of fellow American Hobbs Kessler at 3:31.97.
Nuguse's time was the best of the two semifinals. Norway's Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the other semifinal with a 3:32.38 time.
The men's 1,500m final is scheduled for Tuesday at 2:50 p.m. EDT
UPDATE: Nuguse finished third to win a bronze medal in Tuesday's 1500-meter final. USA's Cole Hocker won gold with an Olympic record time of three minutes and 27.65 seconds. Great Britain's Josh Kerr finished just ahead of Nuguse for silver. Kerr's time was 3:27.29. Nuguse's 3:27.80 is a personal best.
