This may have been discussed before but anyway, I heard some incredible statistic regarding the low number of injuries suffered by Stanford footballers. I don't recall what the number was. Does anyone know what that the data is regarding their injuries? Was this a fluke year or do they consistently do well in preventing injuries? Has there been any reason given to their success in injury prevention?

Longo has made ND 's strength program much better.
It's time to analyze functional fitness
and get involved in ways to improve training to reduce injuries.
The best Plyometrics/ functional fitness guy in the world
is James Radcliffe at Oregon.
I would consult with this guy first

When I train nationally ranked junior tennis players, we work on plyometrics to strengthen the bodies core , sudden bursts and foot speed. Might be something the conditioning coach should consider !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, ZORO50. If I were a recruit, this workout regimen would be quite appealing. If I were an athletic director, I'd try to get this guy over to my school!

What it Rambler some on here will question you as not being a true ND fan if you bring anything positive about Stanford!

It's true. Check out the bios linked starting with "mastermind" Turley. The team does tons of running and sprinting (on top of all the cutting edge stuff). Very old school... Plus, they have running competitions between players, position groups... the loser gets to run more....

In addition, they are leading edge/pioneering with Trent Edwards virtual reality software.... They are pushing the envelope hard. Trent is an unbelievably humble and great guy. He could/can still play...

Since '11 Stanford has won 2 Rose bowls and Orange Bowl and lost a Fiesta and Rose. We won a Music city, pinstripe, sun, lost a fiesta, discover bcs...They are 6 percentage points higher than us in 5 year grad rates...

One reason ND must keep Stanford on its schedule. Our educational values are very similar … no easy majors like you can find in many of the other schools … and athletes are students first.

As for "training" to minimize injury, apparently Stanford is well ahead of the pack. ND should look into this.

Another good read is at http://gostanford.com/fls/30600/Feature/TheStanfordWay/

We need to get on this virtual trend with both feet fast.

It enables the player to practice real time inside virtual plays on their own in limited space. It's crazy good. Hogan's learning curve is like a hockey stick now....

Ok....enough with this stupid injury crap.
Couple things here....

#1 the spotlight is always on the dome. So if someone goes down oh dear Lord stop the presses. It's football. Injuries happen. Some years it happens more than other years.

#2 it sticks out like we are injured more because our 2nd and 3rd string on defense is apparently very lousy because every other team just deals with it. Put the next guy in and keep playing.

But here at Notre Dame we have to make excuses all the time why our defense sucks....blah blah blah...injury this, injury that. Hard to compete depleted. How about doing a better job recruiting and development of players that are all a snap away from having to go in. Then you don't have to make excuses and can still actually compete.

Injuries at Stanford don't happen as much because they have the #1 strength coach in the country!! SC should be under the same scrutiny as other coaches!! Longo is partly responsible for the multiple injuries!! I can think of at least 3 injuries that were preventable--Folson, Tranquil and Smith were ALL non contact injuries!!

We lose two linebackers and they didn't even have any contact on the plays. Amazing.
