Did not have the best player on the floor, nor did he have even the second best player. In fact he had two guys who weren't even worth the space they took up. Still pulled out a win

I still ask those who want Brey gone, who would they chose for a new coach. I think I asked that about 4 years ago and I still haven't heard an answer. I remember the McCloud days of just getting to .500 was great. Brey fits ND, he brings in the players who will stay for 3-4 years and build a TEAM.

When we went to the ACC, I really thought we had seen our last appearance in the NCAA and that we would struggle to make .500 Very impressed these past two seasons.

Nice to see us win like that today, but sorry to see SFA exit the field too.

I will give Brey credit . I still think he is trying to " find" his team this deep into the season. Farrell playing like 30 minutes is a lot more than anyone here would have imagined but they play 8 players and seem to find a way to win. IMO this is a very good year getting to the sweet 16 . You never know an elite 8 appearance is not out of the question. The FINAL FOUR ?

After speaking with my former HS coach yesterday and a guy I was fortunate to coach with for 4 years before I moved away and got my first hc gig...he said some interesting stuff....he said he thought ND would have tons of trouble winning today given the unique way SFA plays. ND played late Fri nite, well past midnite...which meant they would have little gym time to prepare for SFA's pressure...most of the prep would be in a walk through manor and some of it would be in a ball room...lots of film study. This shows you how decent a coach Brey really is...just think....Huggie Bear and WVU had 3-4 full days to get ready, how did it work out for them? Brey's not great, he's not elite....but he knows how to coach at ND..and his teams always seem ready...90 minutes to get ready for this team and how many turnovers did they have...10-12? WVU had 4 days and had 22...'nuff said

I am a Brey fan and give him great credit for reviving a moribund basketball program at a FB school. That being said, ND was out coached the last 5 min of that game. Better to be lucky sometimes. I'll take it

Yes, better to be lucky. Definitely the best two years Brey has pulled together.

He is a great coach! I wish he would get someone on the staff to help with the defense, but I think many of their struggles have to do with how they are forced to recruit. Great win and got some luck. Funny how it seems both the football team and basketball team are in the same boat right now.

Look at what he has accomplished after losing his two best players to the NBA. (I know all teams lose players.) But... Remember, we are not a team that brings in several 5* plus guys who can make an immediate impact on their way to the NBA. We win with lunch pail guys who stick around for four years. That is what makes this year so impressive for Brey. DJ played well and that was a sweet tip from the Cali volleyball player! We need to make layups and finish at the basket! Go Irish!

Actually he wasn't outcoached at all......I think their coach blew their momentum when he went into that slow down offense the last few minutes. I think both coaches had their teams prepared but if you're looking for a poor coaching call, that slow down decision was it.

I am just so happy for the players and coach. Matt Farrell has made a major contribution.
DJ played great. We have not been consistent this year, so I thought it would be very hard for
us to eek out two in a row. I am dazzled and happy for them all, and impressed by SFA.
That guy of theirs never misses. Kudos to Zach Auguste too, played huge. A great, great win
for this group.

Brey and this team needed to get the sweet 16 to continue the momentum as a program . Coming off last years Elite 8 appearance . Brey has had waay too many disappointing post seasons to quiet his critics if they had lost to Michigan. This game vs. Wisconsin is now very winnable . back-to-back elite 8 appearances would be exactly what Brey needs for recruiting. Imo he is beginning to take his recruiting to a higher level. He is probably more confident now walking in and competing with the Duke, Kansas, etc with an elite 8 appearance and close loss to Kentucky. A Thon Maker would be so welcomed by the ND student body ! If he is a one and done who really cares as long as his one is legit by academic standards. ND is close to being a FINAL 4 team but need to recruit some " great bigs" to compete with Carolina , Kentucky etc, Next years' team could be a Final Four contender with a great center . IMO DJ returns because his best friend is Torres . DJ, Torres, Vasturia, and VJ would be seniors. 3 veteran starters, add Farrell, Phluger, Ryan and the incoming Frosh class and this team is good in 2016-17 . Add a bonafide shot blocker and this is a pre-season top 10 team. Not sure if Brey would know how to coach all these guys but it would a very good team.

Mike Brey is a class act. Brian Kelly can learn a thing or two from him. There is a reason why Brey is the top coach on campus.

Says who? Your statement will be proven false when the NBA Draft comes around in June.

Who wants him gone? He's the best coach on campus. Duke will probably snag him away in a few years if Swarbrick keeps delaying the building of a practice facility. The ND admin/AD treat Brey like crap.

Oh, low blow. Come on Donald. When will you start being more presidential?

I have said for years he is one the most underrated coaches in basketball. Izzo gets so much hype at Michigan St., and he is definitely an excellent coach, but he also gets players ND never has! If Brey ever landed some kids who just want to come for a year or two and leave, this program will be very strong with him coaching. Look at the women's teams, always get solid players and with solid results. It is just unfortunate that UConn gets every top player and practically wins it all every season. Of course again they say their coach is some genius lol.. send McGraw over to UConn and I guarantee she wins a title with the players they have had.

Regardless congrats to both the men's and women's teams, as well as the entire ND sports program.. has been a really solid season and we need it to continue!

then why does he stick around ? my guess is it's not nearly as awful as you make it out to be.

Ummm... The top brand name coach on ND's campus is named Muffet McGraw. You know, the won routinely has one of the 3 best teams in the country and has a national championship to her name. I like both Mike Brey and Brian Kelly, but Muffet is a Hall of Famer and has a chance to be one of the top 4 winningest coaches in NCAA women's basketball history.

Who cares about woman's basketball ?
