Recently, coach Marcus Freeman said the following:

”“The thing I love about it is it's not about as much, 'This is our scheme. Who fits it?'
His mindset is, 'OK, who are the best 11 or the best 22? And how do we tailor the offense around those guys?

The latter was Ara’s philosophy, the former was Kelly’s philosophy.

There’s a rigidity with the former philosophy that inhibits making adjustments.

I've always felt that's what kept Kelly from getting the program to the next level, and why I knew he could never win a championship at ND.
