What is the general consensus on the Sagarin rankings? They used to be a component of the BCS formula, and they still live out there in cyberspace.

ND has cracked the top 10 this week. Can we just say we're a top-10 team now? ;)

I honestly think these are a pretty good measure of the pecking order. At home or a neutral site, I think we'd probably be favored in Vegas over any team ranked below us.

I hate the AP. Sportswriters determining who is best. The ultimate eyeball test. But I hate the Coaches poll more. Coaches don't watch games. They watch film of their opponents. Most coaches don't vote anyway, delegating that task. When they vote, they favor themselves and their opponents/conference. A total conflict of interest when bonuses can depend on rankings and bowl appearances.

I'm just so glad the polls have been taken out of the equation for the National Championship with the new playoff format!

The nature of the Sagarin is that it takes pretty much the entire season to really assess and filter everything adequately, but at the season's end I would stack it up against any poll, especially the human polls.

Yes but we still have the human element with the committee and only four teams taken.
