.I think the Irish should use the running game more this year and impose their will on weaker teams. They have huge athletic maulers on the Oline including tight ends and they have excellent seasoned running backs and good running Quarterbacks in Zaire and Kizer.
The Irish don't need to throw it all over the field. If the running game clicks it will open up the passing game and give the young receivers confidence.

*** Of course the Irish coaching staff knows a lot more about football than I do but I am guessing that they know that the running game is their strength right now with Fuller, Brown, and Robinson gone. It might take a little bit for the young receivers to get into a groove like last year.

What say you, Irish fans??!!! Lou Holtz or Don Coryell ?? Who should Coach Brian Kelly emulate??

Josh Adams---- 1134 Yards T. Folston 857 Yards--- Dexter Williams 501 yards and ---423 yards from the QB position.

Kelly can't help himself and loves to throw - remember you "BGUTI" - he now has QB's with great arm strength to make the throws. GO IRISH.

Think BK will use the run game more to open up the passing game this year. Get teams to commit 8 to the box and go over top. Play-action passes should work better this year than years past.

Since Coach Kelly turned the game planning and play calling over to Coaches Denbrock and Sanford last year, and he said they would be handling the offense this year again; then I would expect an offense similar to last year.

We were ranked # 6 In the game versus # 12 Clemson.

We were 3 point favorites and then kelly choked.

I recently re-watched the game and the portly diminutive one surely looked like he was calling plays....He also stupidly went for 2.....

This second 1/4 series is additional proof of his playcalling:

  • 2nd and 7 at ND 34
(9:12 - 2nd) NOTRE DAME Penalty, Delay of Game (DeShone Kizer) to the NDame 29

  • 2nd and 12 at ND 29
(8:55 - 2nd) NOTRE DAME Penalty, False Start (Mike McGlinchey) to the NDame 24

  • 2nd and 17 at ND 24
(8:28 - 2nd) NOTRE DAME Penalty, Delay of Game (DeShone Kizer) to the NDame 19

the one man band is out of tune again.

As Echo stated, How they achieve the balance is really a different question. I hope to see a running game confident of getting a first on third and three, and one that can impose their will inside the twenty on every team we play.

I hope we are like the 1966 team which was as good a smash football team as I ever saw.Crush them, grind their faces into the dirt. Make the other team give up at half time.
Sometimes I can be very cruel.

I think the starter is going to be Kizer, no matter how much I think Malik would be great. Kelly didn't recruit Kizer to run, he recruited him because of his pocket presence, arm, and height. He's the perfect size and has a great arm to stand back in the pocket and sling the ball around the field. And still move the pocket when needed. Exactly the game Kelly likes to play.

So I think Kelly continues as mentioned by a poster above. He'll come out slinging the ball all over the field and try to get a lead in the first half, then try to run the clock out in the second half with possession football. Of course, he has the horses to run so that part of the game will still be very dynamic. IMHO.

This team is going to be great.

Go Irish!

I love the running game, especially against weaker opponents.
But we cannot have 8 turnovers in the red zone again this year like last year. (Six the year before, totaling 14, the most in the country).

I would love to see us run the ball down Texas' throat week 1.

Offensively, whatever it takes. Run, crawl, air it out, dink and dunk, I don't care. But to some extent, it depends on whether our defense can consistently stop the run without overplaying it.

Yup. Kelly blew that game without a doubt. 3 quarters of bad play calling.

Whoever starts the season will be replaced after a few games. Kelly is terrible at developing QB's. With an abundance of riches in this position, it is easier for Kelly to throw an 18 year old under the bus as an excuse for his failings. I expect Kizer to start but be replaced in the 2nd half by Zaire when the team is not prepared by Kelly to compete with an underrated Teas squad.

A simple, "each of your remarks is irrefutable" would suffice.
Dunderhead blew a fabulous opportunity.....
PS. No one heard clemson crying about the players they were missing. Once again the "weeble" lost to a lower ranked team.... hopefully, some day he'll understand basic football math.....

Okay.

Thankfully QB recruits think differently. (Kizer, Wimbush, Jurkovec).
How did the rest of the country do against Clemson? Especially with a freshman QB, making first road start, in a monsoon?

He's our coach, thankfully, until 2021.

I forgot. Clemson played with umbrellas attached to their helmets. The excuses you clowns make are just ridiculous.

And here he is...H.S Gym teacher of the year with his "clever" remarks. I have watched you guys team up on the only poster on here who isn't a part of the "Jim Jones in Guyana" club and I had to help since Perse turned into a likeable pussy.

You are calling people "clowns" & "pussy."

Just curious, you go to home games or anywhere near Indiana?

The best is when perse threatened to send me to the corn field.....
He was impersonating a board moderator....
He makes argus look like Isaac Newton.

I saw that while observing the board. Perse used to be a realist but has gone to the darkside.

Just curious, does living in Indiana increase football intelligence? Again, the faithful with another inane comment. I gues if you go to Indiana, a GMO stalk of corn rips into your head and makes you accept mediocrity.

And regards to Jurkovec, don't count your chickens before they hatch. A commit 1 1/2 years from committing does not bolster your argument.

Nope, just referring that I would gladly sit next to you & watch a ND game.
That way when you insult me you can do it "nose on nose" as Lou Holtz would say.
Fair?

Cool.
So, all you need to do is come to Indy Boxing & Grappling, 2926 East Washington Street. Or we have a gym in South Bend, if that is easier at the next home game?

We just got back from Vegas, (teammate fought over the UFC200 weekend) & most are gone for London (Bellator Card), but I'm around.

An Internet tough guy is someone (you) who calls people names & threatens to "snap your chicken necks."
I just simply said I would sit next to you at a ND game. Never threatened you or called you names.
But I will gladly allow you to try, for real. Probably 3-4 times a week actual real athletes come in & try. That's how we pay the bills. So I can schedule you a free appointment?

What day & time works best for you?

I saw your self promotion on other threads. Lay off the steroids. Acne and shriveled balls. I am just going to refer to you now on as pimplesmallballs. Is that OK or should I move out of the country before youu and your elite team of professional assassins come looking for me. LOL....................................LOOSER>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

No, you can call me whatever you like. That is your MO.
Never done a steroid though, sorry. Never even did creatine. I research diseases, why would I take things I know harm me?

You can say anything you like to me, doesn't change the truth or facts.
And I'm always willing to sit right next to you & provide anything you like to prove everything I say. You don't like it, cool, I'm used to it. I know people like you hate people like me, because you can't deal with the fact that it is all real & you can't measure up. But that's your problem, not mine.

Keep in mind I'm not throwing out threats, you were, remember? All I did was offer to take you up on it. But instead of manning up you decided to revert back to name-calling.

So you can mock me all you want, but the fact is YOU threatened me, then coward away when I called your bluff. So you can keep calling me names & whatever you do to feel important, but that is all you have.

Invitation is always open.

Pimplesmallballs, I certainly did notthreaten you. Whi in their right mind would threaten a special forces, UFC champion/trainer/special forces/scientist. Get help you freak. Kinda tough to talk football lately. Too much "you suck poster"....."no you suck poster".

Anyway. I vote short passing. I believe we lost 3 starters on the line and our deep threat so people will stack the box. Unproven receivers and line pull teams up.

Just my two cents.

Few notes:

I wasn't in Special Forces, that is actually an army unit. I was is special tactics (STS), which is AF. Then you have NSW which is Navy. All of them together is SOF.
Also, we did CSAR, which is rescue, not "murdering innocent civilians." Which includes pulling bodies out of the OKC building bombing, people & animals out of Katrina, stranded mountain climbers, etc. And of course anyone behind enemy lines.

Even though I fought, I never was in the UFC. About a dozen of my teammates made it though. I just train with them coach since I retired from it two years ago.

I do appreciate the scientist reference. That is accurate. Thank you.

As for a puppet, my area of research is infant mortality. For the past seven years I led an epidemiology team to lower infant mortality in Indiana. I have reviewed over 4500 infant deaths in Indiana alone. Pretty sad.

As for getting help. I can tell you that your name-calling & constant negative comments (along with a few others) is actually a diagnosable condition. The funny thing about that is it is covered in child psychology because all the symptoms & causes are the same for adults as it is in children. The difference? It is normal in children, considered pathological in adults. Name-calling, threats, lashing at. All signs of someone losing an argument, suffering depression, lacking attention. Sound familiar? In adults it is usually accompanied by alcohol & lack of purpose.

Put down the alcohol. Stop posting. Seek help.

i see your recent hiatus was wasted. why not visit a library and "attempt" to learn something. your lack of football knowledge approaches biblical proportion. over/under on the next banning ?

GAME,SET,MATCH. 8..9..10. it's over, it's all over.

Kelly will have the luxury of running or passing in 2016, usually at will because his team will be excellent on the offensive side. The defense has potential and this must bring out the needed attention by BVG and Coach Kelly. If the defense is very good, not great, ND I'll be 12-0 heading to the playoffs.

I believe coach Kelly has been emphasizing the running game progressively more and more each season, but when th Irish get in the redzone between the 10 to the goal line he seems to want to pass more.

At least that's the way it seems to me

Hopefully, with an experienced qb we could correct that red zone problem along with the play callers keeping it simple like you said.

Run when they think you're gonna throw and throw when they think you're run. The redzone has to be automatic . ND needs playmakers to emerge . Huge losses with Fuller and CJ gone. They accounted for a lot of offense and great great speed. Have not seen that since rocket and Rickey. No one in the offense is that fast . Still love the potential of the offense to be very versatile. Run with 3-TE sets , play action. etc . get it done. Beat Texas please !!!
