Just read on MSNBC sports that Rudy Ruettiger has become a Morman. Wonder if he now
can walkon BYU?

Hard for me to even begin to imagine leaving my Catholic Faith, but since I have lived out here in Arizona I have known lots of Mormon people and they are really nice people. Ever Easter season, a group of us Catholics and Mormon people go to the Mormon Temple to see the Passion Play. Quite a quite a Show !
Great settings and costumes as well as acting !
There are only some very minor differences in their interpretation than in ours. One being " That Jesus took the Bread and Water " at the Last Supper. Mormons do not drink alcohol !

why are people making such a big deal about this throughout social media. has it become against the law to change religions in the united states

Cool ,
It is hard to read into why the Media does anything, but I would imagine that it was because Rudi
Achieved his fame for playing football at the most notable Catholic university ? Of course, I guess most assumed that because of his strong desire and struggles to get into ND and then to even get on the football
team, that. he was a. staunch Catholic ?

umm, there is a notable difference; they added an entire Book. After the Book was sealed up?

That does not challenge your opinion that they are 'really nice people'.

my experience with mormons is overall good. except if you reject their belief if they try to convert you. Then they are not very nice and will shun you after that. Also friends of mine who grew up in utah said it was very difficult being a non mormon parents would not let their holy mormon kids play with non mormons.

Pers,
I have very little interest in their Faith, but the people themselves are great neighbors and members of the community, and it is just a sight to see how they decorate their extensive grounds during the Christmas
Season and seeing their Passion Play.
I have never spoken about religion to them nor have they to me. I know they have their Books and give a very good percentage of their earnings to their Temple and community Other than that, I not very interested Mormonism !
We have been to their Passion Play twice, and my Wife and I have been to many Catholic versions of the Passion Play over our life time, and we were looking for major differences in the Mormon version, but we could really not see any.
If we were younger, We would try to get a place reserved for the Catholic one in
Oberammergau Germany, but that is only given every ten years.
I have no desire to ever change my religion, but I guess Rudi did ?

Um...it's pretty interesting. How a grown man actually starts believing some of the strange things Mormons believe. At least Catholicism he had from childhood---make some of the big Catholic ones easier to swallow. But hey to each his own magic underpants

You make it sound like Mormonism is any crazier than Christianity.

Mormonism, Jahovah Witness, Christian Science (and MANY other 'religions') refer to themselves as "Christian" religions, but are ALL fundamentally considered as "Christian Cults", when you closely scrutinize their doctrines which vary greatly from foundational/fundamental Christianity (based upon biblical doctrines).

Wow, Jesus did not found the Catholic Church?

That's a new one.

Do you guys get your facts from Trump?

BGI,
I know very little about their religion and am perfectly happy as a Roman Catholic. While there are a number of things about the Catholic Church , some of its leaders and priests, They are also only human
beings. The Church is still the Church, and I find Peace and closeness to the Lord when I receive the Sacraments.
As far as Mormon people go, I,ve had nothing by good interactions with them, and the grounds of their Temple in the Mesa, Az area is a thing of beauty to see during the Holy Seasons. I too always regarded
their Religion as a Cult, but , be that as it may, Living with Mormons out here in AZ is a fact of life and
they are good people , neighbors, and friends.
As far as Johovas go, they are also good people but their knocking on doors and trying to convert
people gets rather tiresome ! The Mormons that I have know and socialized with have nerer ever tried to
proselytize !

Like you, I also have known some Mormon people and I also find them to be good neighbors, good citizens and 'solid' people etc.

I was merely responding to your comment that favorably compared their spiritual 'beliefs' to those of christian doctrines.

I really need to start using my glasses. I really thought the thread title said "Rudy now a Woman", which made the whole thread read a little weird.

Rudy and Allen Pinkett once came to our Catholic school to raise funds to keep it open. All he charged was travel fare. Allan charged nothing. They were both tremendous. It's Rudy's life. Let him live it.

BGI,
I am sorry for the misunderstanding. I really do not know enought about their beliefs to even begin to
to compare beliefs.
I was just comparing their version of the Pasion Play to our Catholic version. My wife and I were looking for any major differences and did not find any ! We did notice a few minor ones like substituting
Water for Wine.
The Play was given outdoors , was free to all, and was attended by a hugh croud of people. The sets,
costumes, and acting were really great. One of my daughters neighbors, whom I had never met before the play, was In costume and playing Christ, and when he walked up to us before the play, I thought that " I was having a vision! "
LOL.
Once again , sorry for the misunderstanding !

All religions are a form of a cult..........

Depends upon how you define the term and the CONTEXT of the term.

This one works for me.........

*The term ‘cult of Christianity‘ is used of a group, church or organization whose central teachings and/or practices are claimed to be biblical or representative of biblical Christianity, but which are in fact unbiblical and not Christian in nature.

Prime examples are the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS, better known as the Mormon church), Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Christian Science.

The term can also be applied to groups, organizations or churches whose ‘statement of faith’ or ‘statement of beliefs’ may sound orthodox, but who add aberrant, heterodox, sub-orthodox and/or heretical teachings to such an extend that the essential doctrines of the Christian faith are negatively affected. (Examples: Seventh-day Adventist Church, International Church of Christ).

No apologies necessary

Took me 30 seconds actually. I'm sure others probably saw it too. But I care. So you are welcome!
