Looks like BK is staying (all these recent reports have changed my mind and I'm ready for a change, actually I believe Kelly is ready for a change!) but I'm still intrigued by some coaches out there:

1. Schiano - HC experience, tough defense, 5-1 (5 in a row) in bowl games while at Rutgers.
2. PJ Fleck - Young, exciting, a lot of man crushes on this site for PJ, inspiring... most exciting choice
3. Charlie Strong -- character guy, great recruiter, inspiring, defense, is he better than Kelly?

Franklin ain't leaving PSU but (I can hear you guys yelling at me already) Joe Moorehead might have had the greatest impact of any coordinator in college football this year. Kids love him. Strives for perfection. Winner at... I know Fordham... In 2015, Penn State averaged 23.15 points per game. In 2016, Penn State has averaged 23.33 points per game – and that’s just in the second half.Overall, the Nittany Lions are scoring 36.6 points per game

Whoever it is (and it is looking like Kelly) needs to address this:

For the first time in its history, Notre Dame allowed at least 170 yards rushing per game for three consecutive seasons. Last year it was 175.6 — which also ranked 72nd and was deemed “unacceptable” by head coach Brian Kelly. This year’s figure also was the most since the 195.4 average during the 3-9 campaign in 2007.

Special teams are a separate story, but we believe the five touchdowns allowed by the Irish this year (two kickoffs, one punt, one blocked punt and a fumbled punt by the Irish) were the most in one season at the school.

I'll do it as an interim. 750 k a year. Is all I need. I'll use the rest to throw wads of cash at an OC and DC. I'll be the special teams guy.

Fleck and Strong. Only expecting Strong to stick around for a couple years though.

We have to face it. No one wants to come oach at ND with all the restrictions. Look at what a coach has to go thru here. players from school 'A' get caught with an unregistered gun in the car and nothing happens (not even arrested). Player from school 'B' same thing and he gets arrested exiled to the gulag. Cheating on exams... School 'A' gives an extra credit assignment as punishment. School "B' expels everyone in a 3 foot radius of the incident. We have the illusion that we are superior to other schools in discipline. Recruits may say..."I don't plan to get into trouble, but if I do I better not be a student at ND, they are bat$#it crazy."

B.K. should, for once, make a wise decision and move on. HC@ND is a freaking Dream Job. Plenty of coaches, like P.J.F. can recruit, run and inspire this program back into contention. Kelly was never up to the job. He's a fake, who uses intimidation instead of inspiration. Big talk with nothing to back it up. GO IRISH hire FLECK

ChSeahawkfan,

Well stated. Correct. 100% Right.
.
Hire him or face him or watch him big somewhere else.

"BK should move on. ND is a dream job."

One sentence is telling a guy that he has a dream job, and the next is stating that he should quit?

I know there are some people here that think or wish that BK would simply step down or move on.... but lets be real. That would be quitting. You can say what you want, but I doubt Kelly is a quitter.... not only for his pride, but for the paycheck and the prestige of his job as HC of ND.

I'm actually beginning to think he'll be at Oregon next year. If I'm him, I'm gone! Why stay and deal with all of the ND football bs -- the extra restrictions, etc? Why live in S. Bend? Why stay were people want you to go? The guy has had success everywhere he's coached. He took an ND program that was in complete shambles and took them to the Natty (and many here said, we'd never ever get back there)! Last year --despite injuries -- we were again three or four PLAYS from getting to the final four!!!! I just don't see many on our coaching list who can say that. But it is clear now that he is not a good fit. Nike will pay him a boatload more than the Catholics. Much rather live in Eugene than S. Bend (sorry Benders.) Plus Kelly is a blue state progressive and Oregon is well, Oregon. I see him doing well there. Now, where do WE get a bright red state, trump loving hard ass?

Lou!!!!

Can't players legally smoke dope there now?

I do agree with this. BK is a good coach. He just needs to leave. Times up. I hate how cfb is like a bad breakup but it's always got to end.

Trust me, no one out here in Oregon has any interest in BK. They are also looking for someone bright and energetic and they've got a lead on ND, as far as selecting a new coach. While I've been a long time BK supporter, it is time for him to go and ND has to make the decision soon. The recruits are watching.

I want Bob Davie. The offence he is running at New Mexico is out of this world. It is like he picked up some Secret Alien Info in Roswell.

He embarrassed Craig Bohl Saturday. That offense he's running is super exciting to watch too. Lamar Jordan... look out. Congrats Bob. Come back to ND and run the ball!!!

Fleck, mo fo!

You may think it's absurd but it is a fact and I'm not the originator of the notion. It has been stated over and over
It is not a FACT that nobody wants to coach at ND, by any definition of the word "fact". No matter who states it "over and over".

IMO, a lot of people think that because a successful coach at a big program won't leave and come to ND that the job is not attractive.

The reality is, it's extremely rare that a successful coach leaves a big name program to go to another big program. About the only 2 that I can think of that would remotely fall into this category are Bret Bielema and if you want to stretch it Charlie Strong. That said I doubt there are many that would argue Texas isn't a step up from UL.

So, no a big name coach that is successful isn't leaving to come to ND. Not because it's ND but because it never happens.

IMHO, there are coaches who would not take the ND job for one of four reasons.
Category 1 would include many of the big household names because they've already succeeded in places where they get exactly what they want (Meyer, Saban, etc.). ND will never give them exactly what they want, so why would they come?

Category 2 would include coaches who have big problems with the Catholic nature of the school and would never express interest (small list I'm guessing).

Category 3 is guys that are already in a great situation and simply wouldn't change for money reasons, geographic reasons, etc. Why switch to ND for a harder challenge and less money (or beautiful IN) unless you love ND?

Category 4 would be coaches that just want to coach and not deal with the other garbage that goes along with a high profile job. Most of these guys are at small schools and we'll never know their names.

I suspect most D1 coaches would be interested in the job. There are 120+ HCs, not including coordinators and NFL coaches. I'm guessing maybe 20-30 wouldn't want the job.
The question remains, how many of the remaining 100+ would ND really want or would be better than BK?

That's true there is zero evidence of any of that....however...

If Notre Dame continues to pay middle of the road money....

It's just fact for sure that nobody is leaving a good setting to come here for a pay cut. think about that...lol...that alone is so ridiculous.

Forget all the other BS and shopping from different aisle horse shit .... the fact they want to pay like a school not very serious about winning

Schiano did well on the field, but wasn't he involved in some of the mess in the Rutgers athletic department?

No, actually Coach Schiano's program was squeaky clean. He actually required players to attend class and did not tolerate any violation of team rules. He was handcuffed by a NJ legislature that was more interested in gouging the school than supporting it or heaven forbid athletics! ND would offer Coach the support he did not receive at RU and in turn he would present them with a program they could be proud of!

If two of our three most realistic options are Schiano and Strong, then ND is in deep trouble.

What are you assuming Kelly makes? It's certainly not middle of the road money, if it is in the reported $4 to $5 million range.

What are your options Ken. Stoops, Meyer, Saban? Just ain't happening... A couple of those guys have been offered the job and all three are at school that are totally TOTALLY football friendly...

ND IS a dream job and BK was not up to it. Kelly Could not do it. Had every thing going for him but did not produce. MOVE ON !!! If Penn State can come back then ND can. C'mon Man ....

You miss my meaning, or maybe I didn't state it correctly. I will have to review my wording. the fact that I'm talking about is that the restrictions are different. Our admin will dismiss a player when many others will not even slap them on the wrist. it is a level of control that many coaches don't want to have to face. I did review my first post and it is not clear. I will leave this topic alone for now.
