Liked what I saw from Malik Zaire. The arm is there. The ability to run is there. I still think he's a better natural leader than Golson. I like that Kelly is keeping this an open competition, as well he should, but I'm hoping Zaire locks it up in training camp this fall as I see him having a higher ceiling for both personal and team success.
The Prosise "experiment" at RB has truly proven to be an inspired one. Kelly will have a great task in figuring out a way to properly deploy him in the offense this fall, be it at RB, the 'Z' WR spot, or however. Great "problem" to have.
Liked what I saw from Smythe as the 'starting' TE. He's not Eifert, but he's not bad. He'll be a LOT better in 2016 too. Plenty of room for competition there. Also liked what I saw from Hounshell when focusing in on him as a blocker. He deserves the 5th year regardless of anything else. He can help this team win games in that regard, and that alone deserves a 5th year.
Starting OL looks good. Among the backups, I thought Harrell looked solid on the right side edge. 'Terror' Bivin was absolutely atrocious on the left side at OT. If Stanley goes down, I expect Bars to step in. If Bars goes down after that, move McGlinchey over and put Harrell at RT. Bivin is a (limited) OG playing OT.
Trumbetti is a starting-caliber DE who will be a top rotational backup. I'm not sure that he's not a better all around DE than Okwara.
Jerry Tillery (as expected) needs a TON of upper body development before he's ready for primetime. Love the frame, though.
Jay Hayes is looking more and more like a legit 3-tech by the day. Still needs to learn how to use his hands.
Nyles Morgan looks much more athletic and natural in his movements. Testament to the development of his instincts and not his athleticism, which was always there.
Jarrett Grace looks like a football player again. Could be a heck of a #2 or #3 Mike this year.....love the competition that could ensue between he and Morgan there, behind Schmidt.
Onwualu is looking more like a LB now. Nice movement, nice tackling form. Could be a real asset as a 'Sam' vs. spread teams. Looked a little like Anthony Denman today.
Really impressed by Nick Watkins, esp. how he was using his hands, both in press form, and on the ball. Looked like he'd been studying Richard Sherman. Played with confidence.....tantamount to success as a corner.
Depth at safety is REALLY bad.......need a healthy Tranquill and a present Avery Sebastian to help out here.
Justin Yoon......we're ready for you.
