After a day off Wednesday, Notre Dame football resumed preseason practice Thursday morning in the Irish Athletic Center and LaBar Practice Complex.
The Irish started practice with some up-tempo 11-on-11, so we got another look at the first-team units for the time being.
The offense lined up with QB Sam Hartman, RB Audric Estime, WRs Jayden Thomas, Tobias Merriweather and Jaden Greathouse, TE Mitchell Evans, LT Joe Alt, LG Pat Coogan, C Zeke Correll, RG Rocco Spindler and RT Blake Fisher.
The defense lined up with DE Nana Osafo-Mensah, NT Howard Cross, DT Rylie Mills, VYP Jordan Botelho, MLB JD Bertrand, WLB Marist Liufau, NB Thomas Harper, CBs Benjamin Morrison and Clarence Lewis and S Xavier Watts and Ramon Henderson.
The special teams drills included ball security/strip attempts and a blocking/coverage pursuit one-on-one setup.
WR Rico Flores Jr. did a nice job of blocking CB Christian Gray in the final segment when special teams coordinator Marty Biagi handpicked matchups. RB Devyn Ford evaded a block from LB Jaiden Ausberry. TE Cooper Flanagan yanked down S Antonio Carter II for a holding penalty on his block attempt.
The rest of the individual drills were fairly uneventful in the first five periods media members were allowed to watch.
Three injured players were working on the sideline: TE Kevin Bauman, WR KK Smith and CB Chance Tucker. Previously sidelined RB Chase Ketterer was back in action.
The suspected knee injury to DE Aiden Gobaira suffered Tuesday night kept him sidelined with a large wrap/brace on his right leg.
A big contigent of scouts were at today's practice with the Washington Commanders, Denver Broncos, Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers represented.
We will be speaking with Biagi and specialists in a little bit.
