im certain most of the work they've done up till now has focused on turning procise into a runner looking for holes out of the regular offense and getting up field. early returns show the job has been well done thus far. but short yardage is a different animal. its nice to occasionally get through the hole and down field but more important to make the line to gain...and C.J has literally no experience at this.
gonna be a heavy load now that Malik is out too. he seems to be talented in the open field and should do just fine on early downs. but I worry his inexperience may show up in short yardage plays. and i think it may be one reason the Irish struggled it such situations against UVA. really gonna miss having someone like McDaniel back there now. hopefully the team will spend some of there focus this week (whatever time they have beyond preparing Kiser and Wimbush for their new roles) on this problem. Also maybe work on getting the second freshman (not Adams) or someone turned into a short yardage specialist?
