PJ Fleck should get the call from Jack

Great video - Fleck is Nut - in a great way -

He is no one trick pony - he's in this for the long haul and he is unique - He relates to the 18 to 22 year olds

He is the number 1 recruiter in the MAC. He'd be a tremendous recruiter at ND.

The Ball is in Jacks hands - does he fumble it or does he score w/ a great young head coach w/ Midwest roots for ND ?

HIRE HIM or FACE HIM ! (I would not want to face him when he gets his new gig and starts to get his recruits on board.)

Jack, Jack, Jack. He will pass and we'll get smashed by Purdue. Heck, Fleck and WMU would've smashed ND. Imagine what he'd do with our talent. He's a Harbaugh level guy and the only one available in the country. The difference is he relates to players even better than Harbaugh. This is a gold mine and Jack might be too old and tight panted to see it. He might be the only great one available for quite some time. We'll end up with some old timer, washed up and boring and we'll have a minor improvement and be happy being uninspiring and mediocre.

And can you imagine the national attention he'd bring to our program with his coach speak and row the boat gimmicks. Might be cheesy but so is Dabo, Harbaugh and just about every good coach today.

Kids eat that schtick up and the message is positive so bring it on. Better than red faced f words and press conference bashing of players. Fleck would never do that. Have some class, Jack!

Agree - ND will let him slip away. ND can't get out of their own way. They will bumble the departure of BK and let him stay on board 1 year too long. JACK cannot see the forest through the Trees. Either can Jenkins for that matter or else BK would be gone by now.

Then hire some boring retread head football coach who is not much different than BK at the end of the day.

Fleck will be a year into a knew gig and within 2 or 3 years his team will be rolling and all ND fans will be lamenting ="what could of been ?"

Right in their back yard to boot.

Agree 100 %

Purdue is about to offer Fleck. ND needs to dump BK now. Top coaching candidates are going to be gone. Greg Schiano Is another choice. However, his overall record at Rutgers was something like 59-58.

Bottom line is Jack has to pull the plug now on the Kelly experiment.
Today could say alot . His pre game speech was good.
The Bagger are a good to go prove your worth against

we already have sub-Brady Hoke; no place to go but up!

I would not be shocked if there was news re PJF.

The way Kelly has been shopping (openly), methinks he was working on a deadline?

Tues.?

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but wouldn't Fleck have to accept the newly hired OC and DC coaches?
Lol jps

I was trying to convers with 88 and didn't want to start a new subject title, but to answer you question ..... Yes

A new coach has in his contract that he can hire a whole new staff.

the 'man off the street' would be preferrable to standing pat with A guy that has floated his resume to every postal box in the USA!

Even though WMU lost today, count me in as Fleck's strongest advocate to come to ND. His players played hard and disclpined. They were just outmatched athletically. I'd love to see what he can do with his superior recruiting ability at ND.

Is he getting players from OSU and Mich or is he getting guys away from other MACs? Having best recruiting class in a minor conference doesn't necessarily translate

And to say he was outmanned doesn't matter. How many posts here refer ND's talent gap with Bama and others?

Fleck=Kelly
ND doesnt need a cheerleader.
You are ridiculous to even imply that the two coaches are similar. I love a coach that is the biggest "cheerleader" on the sideline but can also coach the X's and O's. Maybe if Kelly had more passion towards his players he wouldn't be on the hot seat.

While I don't think Fleck is ready for ND (at least not yet), I was impresssed with Western Michigan---well coached and fought hard.

I agree. PJ Fleck is a COLLEGE coach. I hope he stays with Western Michigan until after the cotton bowl. I believe he will be ND's after that game. At least I hope.

"I believe he will be ND's after that game. At least I hope"

Not in 2017 he won't be.

Let's hope it doesn't. A coach whose only HC experience is four years at Western Michigan? No thanks. I've seen that movie before.
That's your opinion. I think the Irish would have an upgrade with Fleck, how much I don't know.

Exactly---that's my opinion. Just like your comments are your opinion. It's all speculation, some of which is based on past history. Nobody knows for certain.

JMO: no head coach would be an upgrade over the current situation!
Well, I totally disagree with your thought. Almost any move would be an upgrade, even temporary, than the status quo. Things aren't looking too good for '17 as of now. I hope I'm wrong and Kelly leads the Irish back, but I just don't see it happening.

Where did I say that ND should have kept Kelly? As an alum, I just don't think someone with only four years of head coaching, all of which at Western Michigan, is ready for the pressures and demands of ND. Sorry, sounds a bit naive.

There's a reason why nobody went after the guy. Do some research. He has some Petrinoesque baggage.

Face it ND is stuck with Kelly thanks to Jack at least until he goes 0-2 or 0-4 to start 2017. Hopefully the recruits stay on board for the next HC.

Of course I know Kelly is going to be the coach in 17. This is an old thread that recently got bumped. I was hoping Fleck would be our coach but now have moved on and accepted Kelly for 2017 and I think we can have a 2012 type year with Kelly running the offense and Elko the defense and Polian the special teams. 12 and 0 baby !

Not unless we can get on the phone and convince some idiot Owner and GM of an NFL team looking for a new head coach to hire Kelly. Who's with me!?!

Wouldn't be surprised that ND, very informally (3rd parties), has already reached out to his side to gauge possible interest and what his requirements might be. Also, it wouldn't surprise me, if this were to come out, that the BOD's were pushing this. Fleck is doing nothing until he knows where the market is and who the participants might be.
Okay let's just say that this Fleck infatuation has legs. How does that tie into hiring Elko, Polian and Long? Has stuff with Fleck been going on in the background because I doubt ND is going to eat Kelly's buyout along with two assistants that haven't coached a down yet. So is Fleck involved in these hires? Is Swarbrick that dumb that he would allow Kelly to hire three assistants and then fire the HC?

buyouts! ND was running short on buyouts!

The only legs it has are here on this message board.

People are still ticked that Kelly -- yes, KELLY, will be the HC at ND in 2017. But hey, people need to vent their ideas, so, the message board it is.

Been ignoring this thread because it reeks of being in denial of the fact Jack made his decision and Kelly is making his staff changes, and any talk about Fleck or anybody else being our HC next year is pure fantasy, unless some NFL team takes a flyer on Kelly on the cheap. that said, I for one am sick of Kelly's stoic sideline demeanor after sacks or TD's, etc... The players respond to enthusiasm from their HC, Something Pete Carrol understood to perfection, and watching Fleck or Franklin or Myers or Harbaugh, etc... makes Kelly look like a disinterested CEO mentally engrossed in thinking about the next play and incapable of celebrating the moment. Would welcome the kind of sideline player enthusiasm and excitement that Fleck and these other coaches engender.

Sounds like some crotchety old Priests told Jack he can't spend any more money!

I really believe Kelly has coached his last game at ND. Jack is not dumb. After watching this disaster of a season, he knows without a doubt that Kelly has lost this team. There has not been one player, current or former that has come to Kelly's defense. The players do not like playing for this guy. There is zero coach player interaction on the sideline. ND has had more of the field issues under Kelly than I can remember any ND coach having. Yet, Kelly points his finger at everyone else and never takes accountability.

Jack will give Kelly a chance to leave on his own. ND is a private institution, Kelly's exact salary and buyout is private and is strictly left to speculation. There might be clause in the contract that states if Kelly does not make a bowl game then buy out money owed goes down.
Man, what world do you live in? There is zero chance that Kelly has coached his last game at ND.
