3 and 0 with 2 straight blowouts. Middle Tennesee is no joke-they beat Syracuse and the Gophers beat them 34 to 7. Fleck has the defense, offense, and special teams playing well. The thing is too, is that the Gophers are playing a lot of freshmen and first year starters. You heard it from me first--Minnesota is going to upset Michigan this year.

*** Coach Kelly has got the Irish primed for a great season. But it is always good to keep an eye on new coaching talent.

I think the Irish are ready to get some National love this Saturday night. Wimbush is going to silence the doubters and pass for 150 yards along with 100 yards rushing. two tds through the air and 1 TD on the ground.

Fleck is demonstrating why he will be a very sought after coach at the end of this year and every year. He doesn't just coach, he changes the culture, environment and expectations of the players. He accomplishes exactly what ND needs at this time. Not that Swarbrick or the BOT are capable of seeing this from the bubble they live in. He is the prototypical coach ND will someday, someday soon I think, will/should hire.

Happy for Fleck, and agree he's the kind of coach to keep track of in terms of ND when Kelly leaves. Some of these new successful coaches on the scene bring an enthusiasm and raw raw type sideline persona that the players really respond to. Harbaugh's been doing it with success for years now, but guys like Franklin and Fleck, etc... are showing the players love it and buy in. Interesting in that the approach is so different than Kelly's which is for the team to avoid getting too high or low during a game. it's nice to,see Kelly show some positive emotion and congratulating players coming off the field, but it is really reserved compared to how these guys coach. Seems like an old school new school dynamic that is developing.

Mike Norvell is another guy to watch. I was impressed with how they played UCLA this weekend. PJ does bring enthusiasm. I agree Telx. I think regardless of what happens this year or next (and I predict success) Kelly won't make it to 2020. I see him leaving after 2018.

By then PJ should be Irish ready?

Both of those jamokes need to beat the big boys of the conference or else they are not an upgrade from their predecessors

I think the days of a prospective coach needing to be " Irish ready " have sailed. The ND job is not what it used to be. Find the best guy period.

Agree Stu. Been saying Kelly leaves after next season on his own accord and with enough advance notice to JS to ensure a timely search for a new HC. Would not be surprised if this was already agreed to by both. Not a commentary on Kelly's success or lack of same going forward, but rather on the toll of being ND head coach for that many years.

I'll reserve judgement until they beat somebody

Buffalo and Oregon St make BC look like the 85 Bears.

BK was rowing the boat st Cincinnati in 2009, so what? Success one place does not guarantee elsewhere. Fleck could finish 4-8 once BIG play starts.

Dan Mullen I believe is the guy the Irish have been looking for. What he's done at Miss state cannot be understated. He arguably is coaching on the the toughest conference. No one is looking past them. Never in my lifetime have they ever been a factor. Mullen has really done a remarkable job there. I love his style. If the ND job does open up and he is available they should take a hard look at him.

Does anybody think the two coordinators came to ND thinking that it was a one year gig? Do you think they believed at the time BK was one and done and still left their secure positions to come to ND? Where is BK going to go? If a successful 2017, he returns.

He is an average coach at best. He doesn't win the big games, and that's our argument about Kelly. Here's his record vs. ranked teams prior to the start of this season.

If Fleck beats Michigan, ND should put him in their top spot. Without a big win it's just first year luck. I think there's a chance Flleck is top level, but it's unproven. Last thing ND needs is to take risks. Fleck will come to ND if he wins a lot of games. If not, he won't.

Coaching has the biggest impact at college level.
Kelly does not have this team primed. Kelly is a loser

Swarbrick is a loser

Fleck will go somewhere else

And Kelly sucks

My thought is this...ND gets exactly what it pays for. BK is way down the list of coaching salaries. The performance definitely reflects the salary. Or should we say...the salary reflects the performance.

If the university wants a top program like they claim they do then they better be willing to sign a coach for 7-8 million. Maybe more.

How serious do they want to be?

P.s.
Brian Kelly don't surf!

Fleck will be our next head coach:) He may do great, and he may find ND too tough to manage.....but he is next up:) about time to try something new again. I do not see a legit reason to not let him be next.....and he certainly will come.

How about seeing if he can succeed at a big time program before we anoint him the savior?

Guessing ND is 3-0 with that daunting schedule. We would already have 3, 2000 yard runners.

There is always a better coach until they step into the octagon. Then it's all "i never liked PJ".

I just don't understand where the hell all this talk comes from that basically any good coach woukd be so lucky to have us even mention their name.

This automatic horseshit is riduculous. As in like its gospel that Fleck or anyone else for that matter is just dying to get to south bend.

I want to believe that too but until they start ponying up we will continue to get what we pay for.
