Pendleton to Portal

Well if this year showed us anything, it’s you are one injury away from starting. You have to figure if you’re a in the 2nd team there’s a good chance you’re going to play a lot during the season. Sometimes I wonder if these players jump ship too quickly only to realize the grass isn’t always greener.

In all likelihood he realizes he's been passed by on the depth chart. Good chance both Knapp and Jagusah are interior players next year and some younger talented guys like Peter Jones will be in the mix also. It is what is. Players have options now. Nothing wrong with that.

This is the part of the off season that is going to be freeman’s biggest challenge. Keeping quality depth from going to the portal in search of greener pastures. We need to keep the talent stockpiled into the 3 deep. Jmo.

I’m not that familiar with Pendleton. Was he 2nd on the depth chart ? Or farther down than that ?
He started, and got benched. He was 2nd on the depth chart but in reality deeper once jagusah came back.

He knows he is far from a lock to start at ND next year.

He was a starter early on. When Schrauth got hurt Spindler replaced him. When Schrauth came back he replaced Pendleton. He was the backup center also after Craig went down.

as usual you push your agenda to moronic degrees. We want people willing to fight for their position not lap dogs running to where they will not face any.
Got that?
As usual you don't understand the subject matter. Are the players who have utilized the portal to attend Notre Dame in the past, present and future not willing to fight for their position at Notre Dame ? " Lap dogs" ,LOL. Another backyard All American I guess.

What " agenda" are you referring to ? I'm well aware of the inner workings of major college athletic programs. It's what I do for a living. Why are you against a scholarship athlete being treated the same as any other enrolled student on full scholarship ?

Exactly proving what is wrong with current "atheletes". Compete? Why? .. I might not start, so I'm outta here. A reflection of our society in a nutshell.
For the record there have been many, many instances of players being urged to or being told by coaches that it was in their best interest to enter the portal. I think the narrative of not wanting to compete is way too generic. Kyle McCord last year was a high profile example of that.

On the flip side this situation could benefit ND with quality players that would fill spots desperately needed

I ASSUME teams have end of year meetings with every player. The portal just adds a dimension to these discussions. Coaches have an obligation to candidly assess each player’s standing and prognosis for starting and or contributing in light of known competition. Pendleton got a taste for starting, but lost his job essentially to Rocco, and found himself stuck behind guys more likely to start next year. Colzie never developed. Thomas contributed, but not nearly at the level expected. Our young guys and the two portal guys we are bringing in puts both Colzie and Thomas on the bench. Fully expect a few more offensive linemen to the portal, and wonder about Vernon.

Guaranteed Thomas and Colzie made their decisions quite some time ago. No surprise there.

There's nothing wrong with this is at all, like wtf is wrong with you, is the question. I'm not even kidding at all, what is it about transferring that makes these guys scumbags or losers or bad seeds or reflections of a failing society? Nothing, that's what. Nothing at all! You made this entire thing up. There is no moral connection at all between not transferring and staying with the team that originally recruited you, vs transferring. It's not a good thing or a bad thing, it's void. It doesn't even register on the moral compass at all.

Let me ask you a question

How do you think that they are going to handle their commitment to a marriage?

Yes, I do; graduate transfers only
Hopefully we get a good one
Not a Cain madden either Jmo.

all good posts telx.
My only concern is for instance :
We have a perceived starting 5 o line.
The other guys who are just as talented but are running 2 nd string.
Transfer out leaving us with no depth which is so important now more than ever since we’re playing 16 games to win the NC.
That includes all the positions in the team.
Freeman is really going to have to work to make these kids believe next man in is one play away. Stay committed. , stay focused.
You are one play away from starting , just look at this past season for proof.
