Reading today's piece about their stats... and wow! ESB and KS are in pretty good company with comparable stats to NFL names like Fuller and Tate and Floyd and Brown and the Rocket...

Now they need to become big-time players... Learn to block and run routes like Floyd/Brown and Fuller and Tate!

Considering we lost EVERY (5!) receiver coming into this year it is nice to know we have St Brown and Stepherson in addition to Alize (get it together dude!) coming back next year. Those are some NFL-like weapons....

(Boykins and Claypool -- if he doesn't jump to D -- give us NFL type size and strength. I know people say we don't have the horses for top ten college football, this is a position where I completely disagree, WR and O-Line we can compete with anyone. And next year we will be back!)

Interesting that Finke seemed to jump ahead of Saunders in the slot? Imagine if Tori comes back healthy -- wow that would be four amazing targets for... Can FInke be a sleeper -- one of those quick/tough 'white guys' in the slot that we see all over the NFL? (I'm not saying he is NFL material, but hey, I can hope...)

And are there any Freshman coming in who can make a Floyd like Freshman impact?

(If I'm Kizer and I've dropped to the 3rd or 4th round, I might think about the kind of numbers I could put up next year with this group...) Or Wimbush! Have to say I'd like to see Kizer back (when was the last time we have a QB with three years of experience and his size and abilities, Clausen? And he was damn good.) -- or Wimbush (who is going to be a great one) waiting to come in and maybe run some of his own packages...

Sorry for the rambling post. If you want to bash Kelly or me now... Go ahead, get in the Christmas mood...

Nice to read something positive for a change. Thanks! I noticed that Corey Holmes is transferring after he graduates this spring or summer. He will have two years of eligibility left according to the SBT and can play immediately (graduate transfer rule). I'm sorry to see him go. Good luck Corey.

Good post I think the loss Alize was really significant - we need some more reliable tight ends to make a difference if you have a loss at that position .
Need academic people to make sure he is in good standing ( Alize ) for next season . Running game must improve a lot the backs ok offensive line stunk on run blocking . Could use a big short yardage back or change sceme on short yardage

Change makes sense for Holmes; got jumped by younger WRs. Same is true for Montelus and Zaire who I believe are also using graduate transfer rule.

Tori has a year of eligibility left since he missed the year with injury. I'm not sure he's expected to return though. Didn't he tweet a message that seemed like goodbye?

either way; he gone! (with eligibility remaining; he said he is transferring, so you can read into that.)

Torii didn't transfer, did he? I thought he was thinking about the MLB? Either way he had what two concussions this year, maybe it is time to move on for him... Would love to have him but in my initial post I expected him to move on... With or without we are trending up at WR.

I don't think he's transferring. He's graduating. From what I've heard, whether he pursues another year of football at a different school or heads to the MLB is up in the air.

Holmes had more drops in his career than he had catches. For whatever reason, he just didn't pan out here.

Wish him well and maybe he can breakout somewhere next year.

"WR and O-Line we can compete with anyone."

I will give you the WR's -- they are as good a group as anyone -- the O-Line is a different story. They do not have a physical presence to them --hell, at times, I was not sure they could push around a HS D-Line. They severely under-performed. It could be the way they are coached, the scheme -- all of it, but this is an area that needs addressed as well.

the OL w/o Nelson and McG is very 'meh'; and given the lack of balanced coaching they are at times actually inept!

Depth will be a problem.

Kels -- you are right, there was no Zach Martin (is that guy a winner or what?) or Ronnie Stanley with this group but I am asking you to be a little patient, they were nearly all new (losing N Martin at center really affected this line)... If Nelson and McGlinchey return I really believe (with some of the young turks ready to step up: Kraemer or Boudreaux) we will be back to 2015 level play. I'm no expert but traditionally it takes a couple of years for a line to come together... But yes, they need to be better, absolutely... (And Kelly needs to keep some of these experienced kids on the team!)

Stu
remember the heat I got because I questioned reported vitals for PB?
The trash talk? Well, looks like I was correct. (again!)
He may be a tough strong guy but he is undersized. That does not automatically say he isn't a player but it just is another obstacle to overcome.

Pers, huh? I think it is a little early to say Parker isn't the guy. He was 6'5" 290 out of high school -- bigger than another guy people underestimated because he wasn't a Alabama-recruited top 5 OL.

Zach Martin was 6'5" 271.... out of high school... I'm glad people didn't write him off as a Freshman!

well Parker is now a masured 6'2.5 and not 300

so you want to go with your 'want to' belief? yep.

6'3" 295 and growing like a weed ;)

I'm a believer, I couldn't leave her, if I tried...

I wonder if we will see more two TE sets with Alize back. Basically we either use Sanders as slot or Alize as H back.

I feel good about WR with EQ and KS. Boykin, Claypool and McKinley are potentially very good backups. The probable incoming receiver class does not look great to me except Young could be a very nice replacement for Sanders as a slot and returner.

Nah -- Kelly is too damn stubborn for that. If he is not throwing the ball around the lot, the game is not exciting to him. To line up 2 TE's would indicate that Kelly wants to run power. I am not sure he understands what that means.

Yeah, which I found puzzling, since he's kind of our version of Adoree Jackson, where you just try to get him the ball in space and see if he can make a play. On offense he disappeared in the latter part of the year. Since he was returning kicks you would not think he was injured.

Could be but I thought that was what we did in 2012 with Eifort and Niklas. We just have not had two quality TEs ready to go since then because of injury, suspension or youth. Next year we have Smythe, Alize, Weishar and Luatua as upperclassmen. Smythe and Alize could be very good duo for blocking and receiving.

Did Luatua even play this year?

If he did, it wasn't much. With his concussions, it was probably best. He is still probably the best blocking TE but his time there may have past. I was thinking Alize and Weishar best H back types with Smythe and Lutua best blockers. Good depth.
