Who do you all got? Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm or the field?

I wish Jim Nance would retire from announcing the Masters just like he did the NCAA BB tournament.

Field, there definitely could be luck with who gets to play in the worst weather.

One LIV advantage

I think this is the year Rory finally gets his green jacket. Love the Masters. What a golf course. I've always been fascinated by the early connection between the Masters and baseball. Back in the 1930's, when the Masters was started, sports writers who had been covering spring training down in Florida made their way to Augusta to cover the golf tournament, and that is how it became such a popular tournament. Of course, the connection between Bobby Jones and the tournament helped too. This was in the day of travel by train and when baseball's regular season didn't start until the end of April. Here is a story on the connection:

I think Speith has a good shot but wouldn't be surprised if Scheffler repeats.

My absolute favorite golf tourney. The drama of amen corner on Sundays has been incredible over the years. All of the players mentioned above are playing really well right now, and suspect they will dominate the leaderboard. I would add Schauffele .

The field. There are 20 golfers who could realistically win this thing. And picking a winner is a crapshoot.

This isn’t twenty years ago and 2003 with prime Tiger Woods.

Amen to that! Augusta National is just a spectacular golf course. What makes the Masters so unique is watching the tournament played on the same golf course year after year. While there have been some changes made to the course, it is essentially the same course that Sarazen, Hogan, Snead, Palmer, Nicklaus, Trevino and all the other old greats competed on every year. On top of that, the Sunday hole locations are traditionally the same year after year, so you can reminisce about other great shots hit on those holes in past years. It will be interesting to see how Hole No. 13 plays this year now that they have pushed the tee back. The guys who can hit a draw off the tee may still be able to get around the corner of the dogleg and leave themselves a mid or short iron to the green, but the faders are likely going to have to play the hole as a 3-shotter unless they want to try and hit a mid or long iron off a sidehill lie to the green. Most of them won't try that shot, thinking the risk doesn't justify the award. But on Sunday, who knows? Sunday at the Masters is one of sport's truly great events.

I like him also. But the “experts” say his swing is not made to have success at Augusta.
Are those those the same “experts” that said that John Daly couldn’t win the PGA and the British Open ?

Rory’s swing is close to perfect and his ball flight fits Augusta just fine.

Golf is a fickle game and so many things have to go right in order to win any tournament, let alone the Masters.

You can hit 18 greens and shoot two over and you can hit 12 greens and shoot two under..

if he can get under par on his first round that might help immensely.

Tee times and Mother Nature might determine the outcome.

I wish him good luck !

The bones may be close to the same but it’s a dramatically different golf course from the one that Sarazen played.

A draw for a righty helps on most holes with # 11 and # 18 being the exception

# 16 Is significantly different, as is #7

There’s a terrific book, “The Making of the Masters” which I gave to Father Malloy in the hopes that ND would control their televised product with NBC, much like Augusta did with CBS. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be.

You're right, there have been some significant changes made to the course, much of that brought about by the distances that players are now hitting a golf ball. Interestingly, the biggest change may have been reversing the front and back nines in 1935. Without the reversal of the course routing, there would be no "Amen Corner."

For you Masters geeks, here is a pretty interesting Golf Digest article that gives a pictorial history of the changes made to the course since 1935:

It makes for some fascinating reading if you have the time.

Have any of you ever had the good fortune of playing the coarse? My neighbor growing up, his dad got to play there once with his brother who was a 3 Star General. He told me the rough was 100 times better then the greens we play up here in Indiana.

My father-in-law has played there a couple of times. Extremely tough course, greens are brutal…speed & slope. Not an easy walk

I’ve played Augusta on a number of occasions.

The first time I played I was blown away by the elevation changes.
TV tends to flatten the image and it’s far from flat.

I always thought that the upper tiers on the 13th and 16th green were flat.
They’re not, they have a fair degree of slope in them.
The 13th fairway is also sloped more than it looks.
And the view of the 15th green from the golfer’s eye is very intimidating, the green appears to be a sliver sandwiched between two bodies of water.

Because we’ve watched the tournament for so many years there’s a feeling of familiarity when you play the course, but there are still many surprises when you actually play the course.

it was a wonderful, user friendly golf course, but narrowing the generous fairways certainly made it more difficult for the non-Professional golfer.

You’re correct, reversing the nines created the excitement and the theatre that makes Sunday afternoons so incredible.

I just hope that the weather improves

Sorry to see Rory depart, but happy to see Couples become the oldest player to make the cut.

These guys launch the ball like a howitzer, they’re really, really good.

Lets hope the weather holds

I have to root for Sam Bennett, an amateur, 8 under after 36 and currently in 3rd place.

Phenomenal performance !

I have always been a big fan of Freddie Couples. And how about this Sam Bennett right now at -8 and alone in 3rd place?! When has an amateur played this well at a major?

Weather wise looks like Sat will be a mess.

Bennett has been incredible. He has played with great poise. I thought Gordon Sargent would take home the low amateur prize, but unlike Bennett, Sargent's game has been a complete roller coaster. Lots of birdies sprinkled in between lots of bogies and double bogies. I would love to see Bennett stay on the leaderboard going into Round 4, though catching Koepka will be a tall order. He is playing lights out. If anyone might, it will be Rahm. What a round he had yesterday. Rahm four putts the first hole and then goes 9 under for the next 17. That is why golfers have to have a short memory.

It’s going to be a long day for Rahm, having to first finish his 2nd round. I’d love to see him close the gap before round 3. I want to see a battle over the weekend.

I think you’re correct, I think those who have to finish their second round in the rain and then play their third round in the rain will be at a significant disadvantage from those who only have to play their third round in the rain.

Time will tell !

Agree. Not only rain but cold temps. I heard the high on Saturday will be in the high 50’s plus the rain. Long day.
