OT: TESTIFY! Yes or no?

Nothing complex about if you don't have the money then spend on
Nothing complex about the Constitution other then working against it..

Not everyone interprets the Constitution the way you do. Not everyone agrees on what we should spend money on.

Please explain the completely unqualified Betsy Devos.the only thing outstanding about her is her checkbook.
I'm not saying I agree, but the fact that she's not fully committed to the Feds even being in the education business is appealing to a lot of people.

The Constitution is pretty cut and dry on spending.
Everything else belongs to states rights.
Most of the argument on fed spending has gone out of boundries of the federal governments powers, and states have suffered.

There wouldn't be an USA if Hamilton hadn't convinced Washington (and later Jefferson and Madison at their famous NYC dinner where he agreed to give Va the capital) for the National government to assume all state debts accrued during the war and after. The rich southern states were strongly against that. That forced us into a central government that was able to survive those early very vulnerable years, create a Navy and Army (that Jefferson weakened by the way, setting the stage for 1812.)

Speaking of Jefferson, the Louisiana Purchase was a real example of federal power (that riled a bunch of people who used the Constitution as their guide.)

I don't know about your guys but my public school served me pretty well in the 60s and 70s. But a lot of people in this country just don't want an educated electorate. That is a shame because that is what made us great.

Great post, though you are I are on different ends of the political Spectrum we have this in common

The Federalist Papers showed the importance of a central government though Madison was never sold completely

Many schools have eliminated many things from when i went (though I never went to public school) and have switched civics for social agendas

Yes echo,
I know this because my brother and sister - in - law left their teaching position (12 yes) at West Morris (NJ) for private schools in Texas

The school they taught at wasn't exactly a poorly rated school either.
Echo I fear this difference has cause a blemish between us on this forum. Aside from this I respect you deeply especially in regards to the game of football

Stu as I've said before I have several quotes from Jefferson on the walls of my house.
Again great post

DIP... How do you feel about Trump and his people now turning their tweets on yet another DECORATED WAR VET saying the investigation is being led by “some very bad and conflicted people.”

Mueller is a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. He received the Bronze Star, two Navy medals, the Purple Heart, and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. Mueller is a highly-respected former director of the FBI and is the second-longest-serving director in the agency’s history. He was appointed by a Republican president in 2001 and confirmed unanimously by a 98-0 vote in the Senate.

I'm sorry but enough is enough. How dare the pussy-grabbing, draft dodging, liar ("I'll show you my tax returns") call a hero 'very bad' -- why doesn't he just let the investigation into Russia's tampering with our election play out. And if it says yes, Vlad and his people did do this -- then take action. Again, our founding fathers were fearful that just this kind of thing could happen. But Trump only thinks of Trump and all the Russian banks that have funded his and his royal family's business the past ten years.

Why aren't all Americans angry about this? First he says McCain is not a hero, then he goes after a Gold Star family and now called Mueller "very bad" and threatens to fire him.

What is he hiding? What is he afraid of?

Mueller, has hire 4 Democrats to investigate Trump. 3 of the 4 donated to president Obama. One worked for the Clinton foundation hum

There are also serval points to conflict of interest here with Mueller, and Comey.

Why isn't the former FBI director being investigated as a leaker? Why hasn't Congress the man in the vegetation of that?

Here are the facts as we know them right now.
Someone in the Obama Administration broke the law by unmasking citizens.
some of the Obama Administration allowed the NSA to wiretap millions of Americans.
Comey broke the law by leaking Federal documents. How do you think our Founding Fathers would feel about these actions?

You keep bringing up this Gold Star Family who injected themselves into the political Arena and who has accepted money from the Clinton Foundation on the behalf of Saudi Arabia whom you believe is a problem.

l Rod Rosenstein stated Comey should have been fired because of the way he handled the Clinton email situation.

This is a Witch Hunt plain and simple.

No. Can you explain her qualifications for the job ?
DeVos has been involved in education policy for nearly three decades as an advocate for children and a voice for parents. She is especially passionate about reforms that help underserved children gain access to a quality education for starters

twalsh -- yeah, maybe too harsh. Sorry. I get worked up. Gotta let the investigation play out.

dip -- regardless of who Mueller hires, I will go with him given his war record and his record as an American. He clearly has the interests of his country first. I feel the same about Comey -- yes, I didn't like what he pulled on HRC days before the election, but I always believed he thought he was doing his job and I would never in my life call for the head of the FBI to be fired in the midst of what might be the most significant investigation in our history. A foreign power, led by a despot, gamed our election. No body -- Repubs or Dems -- should be okay with that.

The Obama stuff is a non-starter. If the republicans really had something on him, he would have been nailed. But they didn't. Case closed. I've researched your charges and non of it holds water. Sorry.

Besides, Obama is finished. Securely in the #12 position for historians ranking presidents. So, his time is past.

We are talking about what is happening now. A foreign power gamed our election and the current president seems to be more worried about himself than his country. Stop tweeting demeaning things about war heroes, and do your damn job. If you really think the Health Care Proposal is "mean" -- ask your republican colleagues to invite democratic feedback (hold hearings!), be a leader and fix it.

I disagreed with Bush, but I liked him and felt he had his country's interest in mind.

I don't like the current President. I don't trust him, never have. I'm just hopeful our great system will work the way the framers hoped it would.

More and more this is starting to look like 1974. And we got it right back then. We will now too.

twalsh -- i'll continue to read but i've said my piece on this topic. Have a great one, guys, I hope we can disagree with respect and grace.

How telling.
We are talking about now.
No one knew about the NSA spying until Obama left so how in the hell is that a "non starter"
I'm sure you don't care as well about Obama trying to influence the election in Israel.(aka foreign power )

I'm also sure you have no problem with Obama not doing anything about the "Russian" influence during the election. Except tell candidate Trump "“I’d invite Mr. Trump to stop whining and go try to make his case to get votes"

I am quit sure when Obama was caught on a hot Mike speaking with the Russians about having more flexibility after the election that didn't trouble you

You didn't address the conflict of interest with Mueller, and Comey, or the fact that he leak government document

There is no evidence that a foreign power "gamed" our election. So you might want to drop that , but there is evidence the Obama's AG obstructed when talking with the FBI about Clinton though Comey was a useful idiot, as it turns out.
Comey tainted himself, and the FBI

I don't know why you didn't care for Bush. He spent like a drunken liberal.

And by the way what charges did not hold water, and did you research them with CNN MSNBC and the Washington POS/NYT
Whom have all proven to spread false information

With all due respect take care

Don't be sorry -- just shut your flapper and act like an American instead of a person who tries to drag down the country because you don't like and agree with the top dog.

All Americans are not angry-- in fact many are fffin thrilled. And the rest are Americans - maybe not happy, maybe on the fence - but they are Americans.

Name one Russian bank that has funded the Trump family

The country is waiting for you and others to produce one fact on Russia and Trump and you just make this shit up and obstruct

Hillary, Lynch and Comey should be the subject of investigation and possible prosecution but Republicans are normal. Dems have come unglued like yourself and proven to be anarchists

Shameful how easy Trump got your goat and under the skin of the left

As you are professing misery, he is checking off campaign promises

No one cares if you don't like Trump just as no one cared that I did not like Obama

But everyone should care that you are angry and misguided and spewing anti- American propaganda -- cause that is the stuff and recipe for civil war

Respectful dissonance is American. There is nothing respectful of your dissonance

I respect the hell out of Mueller, but he's got to go. You can't have the special prosecutor and the main source of information in the investigation being long time friends who were described as "attached at the hip" when they together at the DOJ. You can't have the appearance of Mueller trying to protect Comey's honor as part of this investigation. It just looks bad. When Mueller turned attention toward Trump under the obstruction question, he effectively eliminated himself from his position. Trump can't legally fire him, but if he doesn't recuse himself it will be ridiculously bad form.

Well said
Mueller should recognize this and step down. Somehow I don't see that happening and I don't see him being fired either. Should be canned like tuna tho

What about the simple promise to release his taxes?

When does this school choice promise happen?

This hasn't happened yet, has it? I hope it does soon.

Probably another failed promise though.
You are all too familiar with failed promises after eight years of Obama. But you're crying not even 200 days in now?

Sadly, a teacher busted for a DUI would keep his or her job because of the union.

I used to have hours long arguments with friends who dislike Obama so much that they saw every single thing that he did or his administration did as anti American and down right evil. The slant that folks like Sean Hannity spewed out daily was their lens for how they viewed everything Obama. I viewed Obama as a charismatic intelligent thoughtful manipulating guy with poor leadership skills and a view of America that was at odds with mine, and I hated defending the guy, but my friends' extreme bias demanded it.

Now I find myself among other friends defending Trump, a narcissist bully and opportunist whose values are at odds with mine, but hardly the anti Christ that the liberal media and liberals in general have pushed. The distorted "facts" that are being reported on a daily basis by the likes of the NYT should concern every American, as our system of government depends on a cynical questioning objective and fair press, and we have nothing close to this where Trump is concerned, and everything Trump is being reported through this terribly biased distorted lens. While I don't agree with everything DIP posts, I appreciate his willingness to take the time to counter much of the anti Trump untruths that are spouted here.

More importantly, the divide that exists in this country, and which our little threads reveal as a microcosm of same, is not sustainable. We are at a crossroads as a country and as a people. We either buy into the insane extremes and continue on this path where one side will eventually destroy the other, or we regain our bearings and sanity and demand civility and fairness from our political leaders and factual objective reporting from our media, and hold ourselves to the same standards. We are well served having elections over liberal versus conservative versus libertarian policy differences, but we should demand our leaders and the media to address and report the same in factual objective terms rather than what passes for debate and reporting today.

I think that a sort of political evolution has brought us to this point. In my parents generation you certainly had some partisan people, but the overwhelming majority of people hovered around the middle, and might take a liberal approach to one issue and a conservative approach to another issue on the same day. The issue was more important than the partisanship. Now, it seems like it's almost impossible to find anyone who isn't fairly partisan, there are way more people a good distance from the middle, and partisanship is almost foremost in deciding how you feel about any given issue. I really don't know how this gets reversed in any pragmatic way, and I fear it will keep getting worse.
