A couple of familiar names are on the South Bend Saint Joseph boys basketball team that won a pair of semi-state games Saturday to earn a trip to the state finals next weekend at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Chase Konieczny, the younger brother of Irish basketball player JR Konieczny, and Nick Shrewsberry, head coach Micah Shrewsberry's second-oldest son, are key members of the Saint Joseph team. Chase Konieczny scored 35 points and grabbed 20 rebounds across the two victories. Nick Shrewsberry added 33 points.
Saint Joseph won 115-81 over Maconaquah in the first semi-state game, then finished with a 84-72 win over East Chicago Central. The Huskies (26-3) will play against Indianapolis Crispus Attucks (22-6) for the 3A state tile. Saint Joseph lost to Scottsburg, 67-57, in last year's state final.
