Vinny Freeman, the oldest son of Notre Dame head football coach Marcus Freeman, is a freshman at Penn High School in Mishawaka. He's putting together quite the postseason run for Penn's varsity wrestling team.
Freeman, who entered Saturday with a 25-7 record, won all three of his matches to win the Penn regional championship at the 182-pound weight class. Freeman helped the Kinsgmen win the team regional title as well. Penn outscored crosstown rival Mishawaka by five points.
“It was a battle. Mishawaka is a solid, tough team,” Penn coach Brad Harper told the South Bend Tribune. “But Vinny, man, he brought some energy for our team and locked it in for us. He’s coming on strong.”
Freeman and Penn advance to the IHSAA semi-state meet at East Chicago on Saturday.
